Michael Barrymore may only get £1 in DAMAGES after the arrest he claimed wrecked his career

FALLEN presenter Michael Barrymore may get just £1 in damages following the arrest he claimed destroyed his career.
The comedian, 66, had hoped for a £2.4million payout after he was wrongfully held on suspicion of the rape and murder of Stuart Lubbock.
Stuart, 31, was found dead in the pool at the former Strike It Lucky host’s home, in Roydon, Essex in 2001.
His inquest recorded an open verdict. Barrymore was arrested in 2007.
Police admitted it was unlawful as the officer who nicked him had no reasonable grounds to suspect guilt.
They argued that if he got sizeable damages it would have implications for other public services.

Yesterday, the Appeal Court ruled Barrymore would receive a nominal, not substantial, sum. It could be just £1. The amount will be decided later.
Stuart’s dad, Terry Lubbock, 74, welcomed the news.
He said of Barrymore: “He shouldn’t ever have had a chance of getting a load of money. It wouldn’t have been right.”
Essex Police said the case was still open.
