A VICIOUS turf war which has seen two of Britain’s most notorious gangsters executed has exploded again - after a gunman shot up a house.

The latest attack saw a bullet fired through the front door of a house in Salford, Gtr Manchester, at around 9pm on Wednesday in what cops have called a “targeted attack”.

The city has been on high alert ever since Mark Fellows, 38, was told he will spend the rest of his life in prison after being convicted last month of the murder of underworld pals Paul Massey, 55, and John Kinsella, 53.

Massey - dubbed Salford’s “Mr Big” - was shot dead on his driveway in July 2015 by Fellows.

And in May last year his pal Kinsella, 53, was also gunned down by Fellows, aided and abetted by his childhood pal Steven Boyle, as he walked his dogs close to his home in Rainhill, Merseyside.

The murders came after a Salford-based gang known as the A-Team - led by Massey’s pal Stephen Britton - split into two after a falling out.

A second gang dubbed the anti-A-Team - led by drug dealer Michael Carroll - started up, sparking a violent war between the two gangs.

The Sun understands the intended target of the attack was the best friend of gang leader Carroll, who has fled abroad.

These tit-for-tat shootings and attacks are going to go on for a long time.

A source speaking to The Sun

A source told The Sun: “This latest shooting was definitely connected to the murder of Paul Massey.

“They meant to shoot up the home of a guy who is best mates with Michael Carroll and Steven Boyle, but they got the wrong house.

“The A-Team were behind it. It just shows these tit-for-tat shootings and attacks are going to go on for a long time.”

Police Superintendent Howard Millington of GMP’s Salford District, said: “We are considering every single piece of information that’s been passed onto us as a possible line of enquiry.

“This includes looking at whether this is linked to any ongoing feuds or previous incidents to be able to find out exactly why this has happened and what we can do to prevent anything like this happening again.

“We have to keep an open mind around the circumstances but from what we know at the moment, it looks like the house was incorrectly targeted.

“What we do know is whoever carried out this shooting clearly intended to cause people fear, which is absolutely unacceptable and we will stand with you, the people of Salford to find out who did this and bring them to justice.

“To make our streets gun-free, we need your help. No-one should be in fear in their own homes, so if you have any information or witnessed anything, contact detectives immediately.

“Our intelligence about incidents like this is only as strong as the information you pass onto us so I am urging you to make contact.

“Did you see something that wasn’t quite right around the time of the incident? It’s been reported that a moped left the scene shortly after – did you see this? Whatever information you have, we’re waiting for your call.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 5360 quoting reference number 2217 of 06/02/19 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
