NEVERLAND Ranch features features in the bombshell documentary Leaving Neverland and its where Michael Jackson allegedly sexually abused children over the years.
The documentary also mentions Hayvenhurst – but what is it? We explain it all.
What is Hayvenhurst?
Hayvenhurst is an estate that was bought by Michael Jackson’s father, Joe Jackson, in 1971 following the overwhelming success of the Jackson 5.
It’s where Jackson reportedly created the moonwalk.
The home is located in Encino, California – a neighbourhood in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley.
A-listers such as Johnny Cash, Marc Anthony, Samuel L Jackson and Ice Cube have homes there.
It is a two-hour drive from Neverland Ranch.
Jackson recorded his albums Thriller and Off The Wall at Hayvenhurst.
Jackson lived at Hayvenhurst until he was 30.
One of Jackson’s accusers James Safechuck recalls going to Hayvenhurst in Channel 4 documentary Leaving Neverland.
He said: “Going to Hayvenhurst, it felt magical, I guess.
“The house is beautiful. It had a recording studio so we went in there, and I think we saw his brothers and said hi.”
Who lives there now?
Joe reportedly moved out of Hayvenhurst in 1994 because of an earthquake but Jackson’s brother Jermaine still lived there until at least 2001.
In 2001, Andrew Goldman from The Daily Beast toured Hayvenhurst and said it “seemed haunted by Michael Jackson”.
Jackson’s daughter Paris moved into the Hayvenhurst guesthouse in September 2016 while the main residence was being remodelled.
Where is Jackson’s ranch Neverland?
Neverland is in Los Olivos, California, and has been renamed Sycamore Valley Ranch.
Jackson moved into Neverland in 1988.
It was more than a home as it also had a private amusement park, a petting zoo and various gardens.
In 2015, Colony Capital, the majority owners of the estate, put the house on the market for £76million ($100million).
As of February 2019, the asking price was reduced to £24million ($31million).
