CRIME FOR A CHANGE

Judge tells crook with 31 convictions to give up crime because he’s ‘not very good at it’

Colin Smith, 46, was hauled before a court again for breaking into a rural home and stealing a Porsche before leading police on a high-speed chase

A JUDGE has urged a thief to give up his life of crime — because “he’s not very good at it”.

Colin Smith had a long rap sheet before being hauled into court for breaking into a house, stealing a Porsche Cayenne and leading cops on a 115mph chase.

Smith, 46, smashed into a police car, sending it into a spin, as he tried to flee.

He kept going despite the Porsche’s bonnet flipping open over the windscreen.

Judge Peter Cooke told him: “It is amazing that with 31 convictions for 115 offences it has not dawned on you that you’re not very good at crime.”

Warwick crown court heard Smith had travelled 85 miles from his home in Feltham, West London, to Kineton, Warks.

Victim Warwick Hoffman ruptured his Achilles tendon as he tried to stop the car speeding off.

Smith was caught following the 24-minute chase near Junction 2 of the M40 at Beaconsfield, Bucks.

He admitted burglary, theft and dangerous driving and was jailed for six years. Smith also got an eight-year road ban.
