THE Tories are sleep-walking towards self-destruction.
Our new poll shows 38 per cent of the public are bitterly opposed to this country taking part in the farcical European elections next month.
Just under a third — 29 per cent — would prefer leaving the EU with No Deal to avoid this national humiliation.
As former MP Douglas Carswell makes clear here, there are a string of reasons why these pointless Brussels elections are nothing short of madness.
For one, they will cost the taxpayer £100million, enough to train 230 more doctors for the cash-strapped NHS.
For another, they will spur on Remoaners to step up demands for a democracy-defying second referendum three years after this country voted to quit the EU.

These stark facts should be a deafening wake-up call to MPs returning from their Easter break on Tuesday.
Surely it must now be dawning on them that if they continue to drag Britain down this path, they will face a catastrophic meltdown at the ballot box.
Even at this late stage, there is still time to sort a Brexit deal. Anything else risks political oblivion.
Cash for jihadists
THERE seem to be no limits to the largesse this country will lavish on jihadists.
In the latest bizarre twist, more than 100 IS terror supporters trapped in Syria could be in line for millions in legal aid to fight for the right to return to Britain.
The floodgates were opened by last week’s ruling allowing jihadi bride Shamima Begum to use public funds to appeal against the decision to strip her of her British citizenship. Others will follow.
The potential legal aid bill to taxpayers could top a staggering £24million and open the door to hate-filled jihadists.
We would never dispute a defendant’s right to fund their legal fight.
But in this case taxpayer funds are being spent defending people who are self-confessed terrorists.
That’s an outrage.
