A MAN in his early twenties has been stabbed to death in south east London as the wave of knife crime sweeping the capital continues.

The victim had reportedly suffered multiple stab wounds in the attack, which took place in broad daylight and brings the number of people to die in stabbings in London this year to at least 34.

Police were called to Tellson Avenue in Woolwich at 2.40pm on Wednesday, and attended the scene with London Ambulance.

The victim was taken to a south London hospital, but was pronounced dead at 8.55pm.

Recent years have seen a spate of crimes involving knives in London.

Last week, a man in his forties was stabbed to death in broad daylight after a fight on a south London street.

On June 29, 26-year-old Kelly Mary Fauvrelle was stabbed in Croydon while eight months pregnant.

Her baby was delivered at the scene but died four days later.

Last weekend saw three shootings take place across London within one 24-hour period.

On Friday, 32-year-old father Craig Small was gunned down at point blank range in Wembley as horrified shoppers watched on.

The rise in violent crime saw 2018 become the bloodiest year in almost a decade, with 135 murders in total over the course of the year.

Today's incident brings the total tally of people murdered in London this year to at least 66.

It is believed to have taken place in a garage area outdoors in a residential area.

Footage from the scene showed forensics teams gathering evidence behind a cordon that was guarded by police.

No arrests have yet been made.

The man is yet to be formally identified, but his next of kin have been informed.

A post-mortem will be scheduled in due course.
