SCARE TO THE THRONE

New drug lord El Mayo will ‘wipe out El Chapo’s sons and take control of Mexican cartel’ after notorious gangster was sentenced to life in Supermax US jail

A RUTHLESS drugs lord is reportedly aiming to eliminate jailed El Chapo's sons and seize control of the Sinaloa Cartel's multi-billion pound empire.

The kingpin's ex-partner - Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada - is said to be poised to spark a bloody takeover bid of the secretive Mexican-based crime organisation.

The 71-year-old is one of the last remaining members of the original cartel and believes he is the man to take it forward now Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman is out of the picture.

Gladys McCormick, a professor at Syracuse University and expert on Mexico’s political violence, : “He has never been in prison, he’s very rarely seen.

"El Mayo keeps a much lower profile, he kind of let El Chapo go out there because he loved the limelight.

“He’s sort of the one guy who was left standing.”

First it is reported he will have to deal with Guzman’s two sons, Ivan Archivaldo, and Jesus Alfredo, otherwise known as Los Chapitos (Little Shorties).

However, the reckless pair may be no real threat to cunning El Mayo as according to officers withing the US Drug Enforcement Administration  (DEA) they are “dumber than rocks”.

DRAMATIC CAPTURE

The DEA and local marines finally recaptured El Chapo, who has twice escaped from prison, in his native Mexico in 2016.

Guzmán, 62, was found guilty of 10 charges, including drug trafficking and money laundering, by a federal court in New York in February and jailed for life.

Despite his incarceration, bloodshed is increasing and analysts have seen an increase in cartel shipments to the States and the rise of El Mayo is thought to be the reason.

However, he remains a ghost, using plastic surgery and disguises to evade capture.

Former DEA chief of operations Jack Riley said: “Mayo is the most powerful drug trafficker. I even think we have underestimated his influence and power in controlling the US drug market.”

El Mayo, a former poppy field worker, currently tops the DEA's list of the world's most wanted criminals with a £4m bounty on his head.

The multi-billionaire has been hunted by police and DEA agents for over 40 years and El Mayo stays below the radar by never sleeping in the same place twice.

This is in stark contrast to El Chapo whose lavish lifestyle included trips to Switzerland for anti-ageing treatment, a £7.8million Acapulco beach house and his own zoo.
