THAT'S RICH

‘Rich kid of Instagram’ who boasted about £1.7m supercar fleet fined £249 after hit-and-run while driving mum’s £70K Range Rover

A SELF-PROCLAIMED “Rich Kid of Instagram” who boasted of owning a fleet of supercars has been fined after a hit-and-run smash while driving his mum’s plush Range Rover.

Jack Watkin, 20, was offered his own slot on a reality TV show after bragging that he owned seven lavish sports cars including two Mercedes-Benzes and a Porsche.

But the Instagram boaster pranged his mum Jo Stringfellow’s £70,000 Range Rover in December – after taking her motor to buy a rail card.

A bus driver tried to speak to Watkin – who was not insured on his mum’s motor - about the shunt but he refused to give his details and drove off in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, on December 5.

The rich kid was hauled to Stockport Magistrates' Court where he admitted failing to stop and having no insurance – although the crash was not his fault.

Watkin – who was within his two year “probation period”- was slapped with £115 in costs and surcharges and handed six points.

Under the New Drivers Act, motorists who have just passed their test are now subject to a probationary period for the first two years. In this probation period, should a new driver reach six or more penalty points, they can have their licence immediately revoked.

His mum will also now face the dock in November when she is due to stand trial for letting her son get behind the wheel. She denies the charges.

Watkin reached social media stardom in 2016 when at the age of 17 he claimed to be the proud owner of a car collection boasting a Rolls Royce, Bentleys, two Mercedes-Benz, a Range Rover and a Porsche.

He said the flash fleet was bought for him by his minted parents and said he had once splashed out £500,000 on a Bvlgari watch.

His boasts led to him being offered a slot on a planned TV show called The Majors, which has not yet aired, after he began sharing images of his lifestyle complete with the hashtags #richkidsofinstagram and #ridiculouslifestyle.

In one bizarre boast, the lad claimed his family’s wealth had earned them the name 'The British Kardashians'.

Prosecutor Eileen Rogers told the court: “There was a minor road traffic collision with a red single decker bus.

"The driver tried to exchange details but Jack argued with the bus driver refusing to exchange details then left.

“Officers did checks and found the car registered to Jo Stringfellow and further checks showed the vehicle had no insurance."

Watkin's lawyer Jeremy Spencer said: “The vehicle is owned by Miss Stringfellow, she and Mr Watkin’s father are in a relationship and Mr Watkin lives with her at her address.

“He accepts that he took the vehicle, owned by her, and he drove a short distance, stupidly not making enquiries about insurance. He actually went to the train station to get a railcard.

“The position is where the cars and the buses get together the bus driver accepts he had slight misjudgement with the space available.

"It was his fault, however the key issue was there was a legal responsibility to exchange details. He was tracked through the DVLA.”

In his 2016 interview to promote his Instagram page, Watkin said: ''I'm used to people being jealous of me – whether they're teenagers or adults. I can handle all the envy.

"I know my life is different to other teenagers because I'm very blessed. I don't have to worry about jobs and I have unlimited funds.”
