KING Charles appears determined to carry on his duties with Camilla as his "source of strength", a body language expert has claimed.

The nation was left shocked earlier this year when Charles revealed he had been diagnosed with cancer.

Today palace officials say the King, 75, is still undergoing cancer treatment but his medical team are "very encouraged by the progress" and "remain positive" about his recovery.

Charles will be joined by Camilla, 76, as he chooses to make his public comeback by visiting a cancer hospital to speak to staff and patients, together on Tuesday.

The palace has also confirmed he will host a State Visit from the Emperor and Empress of Japan this summer.

Charles has now shared a sweet new picture with stoic Camilla right by his side as he continues to bravely fight his cancer.

The photo was taken in the Buckingham Palace Gardens on April 10, the day after the royal couple's wedding anniversary - and also marks one year since the Coronation.

It also comes as:

  • King Charles released a cancer update saying he's feeling "greatly encouraged" by treatment
  • Charles' upcoming engagements will include meeting Emporor of Japan as his schedule is packed

In the snap, the King is seen beaming as he smiles lovingly at Camilla, who clasps his left arm affectionately.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun, body language expert Judi James revealed the two put on a united and reassured front in the latest picture.

Camilla has been praised as Charles' "rock" following his diagnosis.

And Judi notes that there could even be a suggestion "their relationship might have deepened" given Charles’s illness.

The body language pro said: "This pose though allows us a glimpse of their authentic relationship without the usual restrictions and filters.

"What we can see here is a naturally relaxed couple with Charles finally allowing himself to show his adoration and his gratitude towards Camilla as well as hinting that he has been relying on her as a source of strength during his illness.

"The spatial gap between them in negligible as Camilla leans her torso in towards her husband."

Charles will never let Harry back as part-time royal - but reconciliation with William will be even tougher, says expert

The body language expert says the "unusual statement pose was all the more poignant" given the monarch's current health battles.

Judi believes that Charles' pose is an indicator of his "calm determination" to carry on with his duties as monarch.

She continued: "With the famous resilience and stoicism of the Windsor men, Charles places one hand in his pocket in a suave-looking pose despite the fact that he appears slimmer and frailer here.

"This casual ‘manly’ pose seems to provide an active signal of calm determination to carry on his duties as King as soon as possible."

Everything we know about King Charles' return to work

Q: Does today's announcement mean King Charles' cancer treatment has been successful or finished?

A: The King's treatment programme is ongoing but doctors are "sufficiently pleased" with the progress so far and Charles is now able to resume a number of public-facing duties. Further royal engagements will be adapted where necessary to cut down on any recovery risks.

Q: How much longer will King Charles receive treatment?

A: While it is too early to say, the King's medical team are "very encouraged" by progress made so far and remain "positive" about his recovery.

Q: How many engagements will King Charles undertake in the weeks and months ahead.

A: They will be announced nearer the time in the usual manner and will remain under doctor's advice. It will not be a full summer programme. His Majesty will continue with all official State business and selected Audiences.

Q: Is there a risk King Charles may be taking on too much with these external duties?

A: The King's schedule will be carefully designed to meet his recovery needs and he will be in close consultation with his medical team.

Q: Will King Charles attend the Birthday Parade, D-Day Commemorations, Garden Parties, Royal Ascot, or an Autumn overseas Tour?

A: Planning continues for ways in which the King and Queen can attend these summer and autumn engagements. All future plans remain under doctor's advice.

Q: How is King Charles feeling?

A: The Palace said: "His Majesty is greatly encouraged to be resuming public-facing duties and very grateful to his medical team for their continued car and expertise."

Judi claims that the latest snap has allowed us to see a different side of Charles and Camilla and reveals how the pair act naturally together.

She said: "Charles is normally very adept at verbalising his love for his wife but reticent about showing it visually.

"His upbringing has seemed to create an intellectual circuit-breaker for him when it comes to PDAs, making him appear mildly allergic to them.

"Camilla’s own body language with her husband in public has so far been focused on staying peripheral when it comes to the spotlight.

"She tends to look eager to do the right thing during public and formal outings with Charles which can make her look edgy and to take her cues from him."

'FAMOUS RESILIENCE'

The body language pro note show Camilla crosses her hands to display her ring finger while clasping Charles' arm.

And Judi noted that the Queen's "direct eye contact" is a sign of "pride" that her husband is battling on.

She continued: "It is rare to see Camilla greet the camera with her eyes rather than Charles but here she is clearly using direct eye contact with us to suggest pride and hopefully some relief that he is still smiling happily beside her.

"In a role-reversal it is Charles turning his head here to gaze at Camilla’s face rather than her taking the cues from him."

Charles sports a smart grey suit while Her Majesty wore an indigo day dress with velvet detail by Fiona Clare in the latest snap.

Judi added: "Their choice of blue outfits with his tie co-ordinating with her dress signals calm continuity.

"Blue is also the colour of business, suggesting that desire to get back to work."
