THEY say imitation is the highest form of flattery - and in this instance it couldn’t be more true.

The royals were in full attendance at the VE Day celebrations in London earlier this month with everyone in their finery for a crowd of thousands to see.

The Princess of Wales, 43, wore an elegant purple coat dress and halo fascinator in the same matching raspberry shade.

Catherine's dedication to the meaning behind what she wears is unmatched, the pretty purple colour not only looks nice but it also signifies the unity of the armed forces and all its branches - Army green, Marine red and Navy blue.

Not only was Kate's subtle honour intended to honour veterans but also to pay homage to Queen Camilla

Camilla often wears her own purple coat dress to royal events such as the annual Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey in 2022.

The touching tribute to Camilla’s style is a heartwarming move by Catherine as the pair have formed a close bond in recent years, according to royal experts.

But this isn’t the only time the pair have shared similar tastes when it comes to fashion.

Here, Fabulous’ fashion editor, Clemmie Fieldsend, reveals the times they have looked to each other for style inspiration.

Last month the Prince and Princess of Wales visited the Isle of Mull in Scotland, a place of special significance for the couple, for a whistlestop tour.

The royals had, in fact, visited the island privately more than 20 years ago when they were students, and the return was even more meaningful as Tuesday was their 14th wedding anniversary

However her somewhat unusual choice for casual, in the past we've seen her look of Breton jumpers for coastal trips, she seemingly looked to her mother-in-law for fashion guidance.

On their visit to Tobermory, the capital where kids TV show Balamory was filmed, Kate swapped her glam city wear for a more dressed down but stylish look.

Channelling country core Kate, 43, wore a light brown, tweed blazer with statement double breasted gold buttons from Holland Cooper, £549.

Paired with a light blue linen shirt underneath, her signature black skinny jeans and brown suede hiking boots, all polished off with delicate gold jewellery, Catherine looked flawless.

In April 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, the King and Queen stood on their doorstep to join thousands of others around the UK to partake in the, then weekly, ‘Clap for Carers’ initiative which saw people show their support for the hardworking doctors, nurses and carers.

Camilla showed her appreciation wearing a country green blazer, blue shirt and jeans.

The following day, Kate wore a white stand up collar blouse with cut-out detailing underneath a green jumper and jacket.

The look bared a striking resemblance to a look worn by Camilla in 2024 when she attended the Braemar Literary Festival, also in Scotland.

PRETTY IN PRINTS

Kate followed Camilla's style by wearing a patterned green dress

Both women are fans of printed dresses, but in June, 2023, Kate and Camilla wore the same patterned frocks just a day apart.

When attending a reception to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the HMT Empire Windrush, Camilla wore a bright green, collared shirt dress with small belted waist.

The following day, the Princess of Wales met families at Riversley Park Children's Centre in Nuneaton, in the Midlands, and followed suit and also wore a green dress belted dress but in leopard print.

In 2023 the royals coordinated their looks on the same day for a church service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

Both Catherine and Camilla wore electric blue looks for the Easter Sunday outing - and both wore coat dresses.

Whilst Camila wore a number by designer Anna Valentine with a matching Philip Tracey hat, the Princess of Wales recycled an old Catherine Walkers coat dress and headgear from Lock & Co.

RED ALERT

Ladies in red, the Queen and Princess of Wales matched in red

Catherine was the style leader of the two in February, 2023, when she was attending a BAFTA event and wore a red suit by Alexander McQueen with tonal matching accessories, a bag by Miu Miu and shoes by Givanvito Rossi

In the same week, Camilla also chose striking red for an official engagement with the British Army.

The pair matched bold colour and V-neck lines that created impactful style.

Camilla and Catherine share the same style when it comes to country-core

The Queen put her country attire on in October, 2020, during a visit to Westonbirt, The National Arboretum in Tetbury, Gloucestershire, of which she is the patron of.

However two years before in 2018, Kate visited the Sayers Croft Forest School and Wildlife Garden in Paddington, London.

On theme for the outdoor occasion she wore a green jacket, matching jeans and knee-high boots from Penelope Chilvers, all in a very similar styles to Camilla's.

Both Camilla and Catherine wore long forest green coats, asymmetrical, beret style hats and even twinned with matching black bags, boots and gloves.

Whilst the Queen chose a belted coat Kate went for her go-to style of double breasted.

Kate Middleton's love of recycling clothes

KATE Middleton might be a Princess, but that certainly doesn't stop her from rewearing her favourite frocks.

Jenny Packham Gown: She first worn the frock to an ARK Gala Dinner in June 2011, and then rewore it three years later to the National Portrait Gallery in February 2014.

Alexander McQueen Coat Dress: Kate donned the beautiful number for Trooping the Colour in June 2016 and then just a year later, was spotted in it again for the Easter Service, in April 2017.

Temperley London Dress: She first wore the black lace dress at the War Horse Premiere, in January 2012, but then, just months later, donned it again, at the St. Andrews University Gala, in December 2012.

Hobbs Coat: Even Kate is a fan of a staple coat, as she's reworn a classic number from Hobbs, which she first wore on Christmas Day in December 2012, and then again on a visit to Newcastle, in October 2013.

Kate Middleton's sartorial choices continue to inspire many, proving that elegance and sustainability can go hand in hand.
