FERRARIS AND LAUGHING GAS

How Sterling joins a long line of footballers scoring shock social media own goals

Filthy rich Prem players, including Ashley Cole and Jack Wilshere, have been infuriating fans with their antics for years

RAHEEM Sterling enraged fans by showing off a flash mansion hours after returning from an embarrassing Euro defeat - but he's just the latest in a string of top players scoring social media own goals.

Manchester City winger Sterling, who dubbed himself "The Hated One" after his poor performance in France, may have angered fans by flaunting the diamond-encrusted sink and fleet of supercars, but he's certainly not the first player to rustle a few feathers.

The 21-year-old follows the likes of Gabby Agbonlahor, Jack Grealish and Ashley Cole as he thoughtlessly rubs in his £200k-a-week salary - making for some very angry supporters.

Gabby Agbonlahor

Aston Villa suspended the £60,000-a-week striker after he was pictured on a laughing gas and booze binge on the same day Villa were relegated from the Premier League.

The club captain was also pictured inhaling a balloon full of the dangerous high, which is now illegal, at a party months before.

Supporters described it as "a real slap in the face for Villa fans".

Jack Grealish

Agbonlahor's teammate has rustled feathers with his bad behaviour on a number of occasions.

The attacking midfielder was filmed partying in Manchester's posh Panacea nightclub after the club's humiliating 4-0 defeat by Everton last year.

Just months before he came under fire after being snapped passed out in a Tenerife street and on another occasion sparked fury as he posed with a £1,000 bottle of vodka.

Grealish was advised to "live like a monk" by ex-England star Ray Wilkins and former boss Tim Sherwood said "he knows it's got to stop".

Joleon Lescott

A third blow for downtrodden Aston Villa came after Joleon Lescott posted a picture of a luxury sports car immediately after the team humiliatingly lost 6-0 to Liverpool.

While Lescott said the upload was "totally accidental", seemingly showing off the £125,000 Mercedes Benz S63 enraged fans as they reeled from the club's worst defeat in 81 years.

The £50,000-a-week centre-back apologised for upsetting fans with the "inappropriate" and "disrespectful" post, while the player insisted it was uploaded from his pocket as he drove.

Former striker Stan Collymore thought otherwise, claiming the tweet was "silly at best and insulting at worst".

Ashley Cole

England's former left-back caused widespread outrage after claiming he "nearly swerved off the road" after hearing Arsenal would only pay him £55,000-a-week, not £60,000.

Cheryl's ex-husband controversially wrote in his autobiography: "I was trembling with anger. I couldn't believe what I'd heard."

After turning down the too-low offer, Cole was eventually paid £90,000-a-week at Chelsea.

He now earns a comparitively lower £4,000-a-week at Beckham's old team LA Galaxy.

Saido Berahino

The West Brom striker made headlines last year after filming himself inhaling laughing gas from a purple balloon.

It came just a year after he was caught doing the same thing in a parked car and vowed: "I won't be doing it again."

The England under-21 sensation sent the footage out himself on Snapchat and it quickly did the rounds on social media.

A source said at the time: "I was shocked - considering he is a top Premier League and international footballer.

"He is meant to be looking after himself and staying fit and healthy."

Aly Cissokho

Another blow for bottom-of-the-league Villa came as their French left-back was snapped pouring over watches worth tens of thousands weeks before the team was relegated.

It came hot off the heels of Lescott's controversial tweet and showed the defender eyeing up flash Rolex and Hublot watches outside Villa Park.

He was looking at the fancy models with a high-end jeweller who tours football grounds in the hope of flogging items to players.

A Villa season ticket holder complained at the time: "The side is fighting for its life and here's one of the players looking at his next shiny trinket. It stinks."

Liam Ridgewell

West Brom's defender sparked a social media frenzy after posting a photo appearing to wipe his backside with a wad of £20 notes.

The 28-year-old was pictured squatting over a loo in his £1.5million home in Barnt Green, Birmingham with his trousers down.

Furious fans labelled the £20,000-a-week star "arrogant" and "idiotic" after The Sun was sent the offensive picture.

One said: "The people of West Bromwich earn a fraction of what this idiot earns yet he makes a mockery of his good fortune like this. It makes me sick."

Steven Fletcher

The Sunderland star faced a furious backlash after posing beside a £260,000 Lamborghini Aventador while his club battled relegation.

Injury-hit Fletcher, who rakes in £40,000-a-week, touched a nerve with Black Cats fans who were reeling from a string of losses.

His boastful photo was uploaded just after manager Gus Poyet was sacked from the bottom-table side.

The striker, who scored just four goals for Sunderland last season, was labelled a "mediocre player" by angry fans.

One said: "This is what is wrong with the game. Two seasons, seven goals, one new Lamborghini Aventador."

Emmanuel Adebayor

The clubless striker, who played for Crystal Palace last season but is still paid £100,000-a-week by Tottenham, seemed unfazed by his lack of signing as he posed on top of a Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe.

Tottenham and Man City share the inconsistent striker's whopping £200k-a-week salary - infuriating fans who support teams that foot the bill but get no results from the disappointing player.

Posed on top of the £318,120 motor, which boasts a personalised numberplate, the filthy rich player seems non-fussed by his lack of club.

Jack Wilshere

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, who put in a poor performance when he came on during the Euros for England, has been snapped smoking on a number of occasions.

The often-injured youngster infuriated club boss Arsene Wenger after being caught puffing on a number of occasions.

After photos emerged of the 24-year-old smoking in a swimming pool, he was again caught having a go on a shisha pipe in a club.

Arsenal fans fumed over the pictures, with one writing: "Time to sell Wilshere, caught smoking again, hasn't put his head down or improved."

Another said: "What's wrong with Wilshere, how many more chances does he need? Time to get rid!"
