Thomas Muller takes his mind off football as ‘director of carrots’ for his wife’s horse career

THE German striker had a bad Euro 2016 and is back cheering on his dressage rider wife Lisa before the new season

THOMAS MULLER has another role when not playing football - as self-titled "director of carrots" at his wife Lisa's stables - where they own a horse called DAVE.

The prolific Bayern Munich and Germany striker, 26, who had an uncharacteristically poor Euro 2016 tournament, failing to score as his side were knocked out in the semi-finals, has another role in his private life supporting champion rider Lisa.

Today he posted a snap on Instagram at their stables near Munich as Lisa won yet another title - having been crowned as Germany's best young horse rider last year.

And bizarrely the best performing horse among his and Lisa's seven mounts is a black thoroughbred called Dave.

World Cup winner Muller is not your average footballer and Lisa, 26, admitted he "knows more about horses than I know about football."

She said: "He's interested in horses so when we are together we talk about horses and not really about football."

And Muller said earlier this year: "I come here [to the stables] to watch if everything's fine. And for the carrots. I'm the managing director of carrots! I watch the dogs. Sometimes I help a little bit but it's her business.

"I enjoy it a lot. They make me feel comfortable, the attitude and what they look like and [the way they] live their lives. It's fun. It's easy to relax around horses.

"Breeding is a little bit for fun,' he said. 'For sure I want to breed the best horse I can. But it's difficult and a bit of luck. But I try my best to optimise."

The couple met in 2009 when Muller was just 20 coming through the ranks at Bayern, and the couple married two years later.

The couple are expected to be in Venice tomorrow for the wedding of friend and international teammate Bastian Schweinsteiger, who has married tennis star Ana Ivanovic.
