Harry Winks set to be handed Tottenham lifeline after impressing new manager Nuno Espirito Santo
HARRY WINKS looks certain to be staying at his boyhood club Spurs after new manager Nuno Espirito Santo reignited his career.
The England midfielder, 25, had been left in the wilderness under former boss Jose Mourinho and feared having to move on to get first team football.
But Winks has impressed Nuno since the former Wolves manager arrived in North London in June and is now a fixture in a Spurs squad which is top of the Prem with maximum points from their opening three games.
Winks also started both Europa Conference games against Pacos de Ferreir in August as Spurs overturned a first-leg deficit to reach the group stage.
Winks missed out on a place in England's Euro 2020 squad after his limited game-time for his club under Mourinho last season.
He was linked with a shock £25million switch to Manchester United in June.
But the Tottenham youth team product has always wanted to stay as long as he was in contention and unless there is any dramatic late change of heart from the club he will remain.
And Winks may soon have a new Brazilian team-mate, with SunSport reporting Spurs are closing in on a £26million swoop for Barcelona right-back Emerson Royal.

Royal, 22, must now undergo a medical at Spurs, but there is no word on whether Spurs right-back Serge Aurier will be moving to the Nou Camp as part of the deal.
Tottenham are keen on trying to get the Ivorian out the door ahead of his contact expiring at the end of the season.

Aurier, 28, is thought to be playing hardball in a bid to secure a better pay-off.
If he stays he is likely to be surplus to requirements alongside Tanguy Ndombele, 24.
The French midfielder, a £55million buy from Lyon in 2019, has been told he is not wanted by the North Londoners and wants to leave, but as yet there are no takers.
