With the scores locked at 2-2 following a Canadian steal, play suddenly stopped when Melrose fell from his chair.

As reported by , the British second received medical attention at the edge of the ice.

It is thought Melrose's wheelchair tipped off the playing surface.

That caused him to fall to the ground and potentially dislocate his shoulder.

The Scot, 56, was taken away on a stretcher and could be seen clutching his shoulder as he went past the media centre at the Winter Paralympics.

Officials then inspected the area where he may have had the accident to ensure it was safe for the rest of the curlers.

It resumed with Gary Smith replacing Melrose in the GB team.

Canda went on to secure a 6-3 win with the Brits now winning three and losing four of their seven round-robin matches.

Team GB - who won gold in the women's event and silver in the men's at the Winter Olympics last month - still face South Korea, China and Latvia.
