Kieran Trippier admits it could take Newcastle FIVE YEARS to challenge for Premier League despite huge transfer warchest
KIERAN TRIPPIER has admitted it could take Newcastle as many as five years before they challenge for the Premier League title.
Newcastle's new owners are set to continue spending big in an effort to turn Eddie Howe's side into a footballing powerhouse in the future.
However, Trippier warned fans not to expect instant success.
Speaking to , Trippier, who joined in January from Atletico Madrid, said: "You see the way Man City have done it and everyone is looking at Newcastle now.
"It's not going to happen overnight, it could take five years, it could take six years and everybody has to be patient but they are taking the right steps and that's all you can do.
"You have to take the right steps to move the club forward and that's what Newcastle are doing."

The Magpies went full guns blazing in January, forking out £90million in order to make some key additions to the squad which have ultimately helped the club stave off relegation.
Bruno Guimaraes headlined the signings as Dan Burn, Chris Wood and Trippier were also brought into the fold along with loan signing Matt Targett.
Trippier in particular made an instant impact with two lovely free-kick goals against Everton and Aston Villa which helped earn Newcastle six vital points at a pivotal point of the season.
A run of six wins from seven games saw Eddie Howe's side turn the season around, and has since put them within touching distance of the top half of the table as the season draws to a close.

The Saudi-backed Public Investment Fund who brought Newcastle earlier this season have already expressed their lofty ambitions for the club.
And consequently another major spending spree is expected in the upcoming summer, with a major overhaul of the squad expected to occur under Howe's tenure.
