‘Worst year of my life’ – Ex-Chelsea and Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas reveals he will quit Monaco after horror season
FORMER Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas will quit Monaco in the summer after the "worst year of his life".
Fabregas has made just two league appearances this campaign but the 35-year-old isn't ready to hang up his boots just yet.
The World Cup winning midfielder has confirmed that he will be leaving the Ligue 1 side when his contract expires in June after three-and-a-half years at the club.
He told : "It’s certain that it’s finished between me and Monaco. My contract expires in June and I am looking to depart. My head needs a departure elsewhere."
And Fabregas confirmed an injury-plagued season has led to him suffering mentally in recent months.
He continued: "It’s been not only the worst year of my career but the worst year of my life because when I’m not happy in football, I can’t be happy in life.

"I have suffered a lot this year; it’s been difficult mentally."
Nevertheless the two-time Premier League winner is determined to continue playing for a little while longer yet.
Despite offers from ex-managers proposing coaching roles, Fabregas is desperate not to call it a day with this season as his final act.
The Spaniard added: "To be honest, I received a couple of phone calls in the last couple of weeks from former managers to see whether I was open to joining them as a coach.

"But this year has been so bad that I can’t end like this, not after having constructed this career. I want to continue playing."
Fabregas, who has made over 700 club appearances in his career, isn't too concerned about where his next club is.
He insisted he just wants to get back to enjoying his football.
Fabregas concluded: "I am open to anything, I just want to enjoy myself. The place doesn’t really matter. I am going to find a new project and see where the future takes me."
