Red Bull star  is considering removing his radio button after being criticised for being too outspoken

MAX VERSTAPPEN is ready for a radio blackout after being criticised for turning the airwaves blue.

The Red Bull star is getting a reputation for his outbursts over team radio with his comments made in the heat of the moment.

Even the 19-year-old admits his comments last out in the United States Grand Prix made him appear arrogant and is considering drastic action to make sure it does not happen again.

He said: "I think I am going to take my radio button off! No radio for me anymore. The thing is, all the time I press my radio button it is broadcast and sometimes it sounds a bit arrogant -- especially the 'I'm not here to finish fourth'.

"But that's just what comes up in my mind. I am not there to finish fourth at the end of the day, I am there to win as a racer.

"On the radio it sounds I am arrogant and not listening to the team, but it is not like that."

Meanwhile, Verstappen's team-mate at Red Bull, Daniel Ricciardo, says he would welcome Bernie Ecclestone's plan to build 40cm walls around corners to increase drama.

But the Aussie says there needs to be a compromise between making races more exciting and putting drivers at risk.

He added: "It's tough because we always talk about safety but I think walls are actually pretty good.

"Even like Monaco, if you slide into the wall it's just there and that's it. I like the idea of walls that they are a permanent thing.

"It's like Lewis [Hamilton] in Monaco when he was defending me and cut through the chicane, if there was a wall there, happy days, I win the race.

"I'm not a fan of the real open stuff, at least have something there that is a deterrent."
