F1 Fails Dope Test

Jenson Button: McLaren driver exposes the failure of anti-doping tests in Formula One

The 2009 world champion says he has not been tested by WADA officials for THREE YEARS and says they need to start upping their testing programme

JENSON BUTTON has exposed the astonishing failure of the anti-doping system in Formula One.

Incredibly, Button says he cannot remember the last time he was tested by WADA officials despite complying with their request to provide them with his location each day.

Button also says that NONE of his close colleagues have been tested recently and that his last post-race urine sample was given "three or four years ago".

And while the 36-year-old insists the sport is clean, he called on drug testing to be substantially increased in 2017.

He said: "I have not been tested this year. I don't know of any drivers who have been tested recently.

"They used to test during the winter but random testing seems to have stopped.

"I have not had a random test for three or four years. We used to do urine tests after the races but that stopped too.

"We have to employ PAs to do our schedules. Every day we have to tell WADA where we are and for one hour each day, we have to be exactly where we say we are.

"We cannot keep travelling. We have to give them the address of our hotel rooms between 6-7am in the morning.

"We have to religiously stick to that and sit there and wait, so if we are going to the bother of employing people to do the WADA schedule, then we should at least be tested.

"Otherwise it is a waste of money and it is an unnecessary waste of our time."

New rule changes for next season will see F1 cars become more difficult to drive and Button says drivers could look to build up their muscles over the winter.

And he says that potentially could trigger the use of banned substances.

He added: "To be honest, there is nothing to help a racing driver at the moment that I know of.

"I suppose next year it could be more physical, so they should test next year for drivers who wanted to beef up a little bit."
