Man Utd 3 Nottingham Forest 0 LIVE RESULT: Fred nets third after Rashford and Martial goal to seal three points

MARCUS RASHFORD has fired Manchester United into the lead against Nottingham Forest and got an assist for their second.

The England star did brilliantly to lose his marker from the corner as Christian Eriksen found his run.

Rashford then fired a shot into the back of the net to give the Red Devils the lead.

Just moments later, Rashford picked the ball up on the left and found Anthony Martial, who fired past Wayne Hennessey.

Nottingham Forest thought they had a goal back but VAR adjudged their goal to be offside.

And Fred sealed the three points for Manchester United in the 87th minute, getting onto a Casemiro pass before sliding home.

  • Nottingham Forest stats

Nottingham Forest are second last in the Premier League table with one game in hand and only one point separating them from safety.

Forest have earned just two points from seven top-flight games on the road this season, and their only away goal was scored by Brennan Johnson in a 1-1 draw against Everton.

Since that draw in August, Nottingham have failed to score in five Premier League away fixtures.

That is their worst league run without an away goal since a seven-match goalless streak in 1970

  • Man Utd stats

Manchester United are fifth in the Premier League table with two games in hand and four points separating them from fourth-placed Tottenham.

United have won four of their past five league home games, drawing the other.

The Red Devils' only defeat in the previous 19 top-flight matches against newly-promoted opposition came at Watford in 2021, after winning 12 of the exchange.

The Manchester giants have lost 11 of their 34 league fixtures in 2022, that means they have not fared worse in a calendar year since losing 12 times back in 1990

  • Head-to-Head

Manchester United and Nottingham Forest’s first ever meeting took place way back in 1958 in a First Division match that ended 1-1 at Old Trafford.

Since then, the two teams have faced off a total of 77 times with United winning a majority of 39 games, compared to Forest’s 21 victories.

The two teams haven’t locked horns since 1998 due to Nottingham’s 23-year absence from the English top flight.

The Red Devils have been undefeated in all their previous eight encounters, which saw them win six of the exchange.

Forest haven’t beaten United since 1994 when they picked a 2-1 victory away in the Premier League, thanks to goals by Stan Collymore and Stuart Pearce

  • Good evening from Manchester

Welcome to SunSport’s live blog coverage of the Premier League clash between Manchester United and Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.

This is the first league match for both United and Forest after the 2022 World Cup break with a lot riding on this one.

The Red Devils’ manager Erik ten Hag will be without Lisandro Martinez, who is still celebrating Argentina's World Cup win after their dramatic triumph over France.

Fellow finalist Raphael Varane may return after Les Bleus’ heartbreak but skipper Harry Maguire faces a late fitness test.

Maguire missed the midweek Carabao Cup clash against Burnley – which saw the Manchester giants win 2-0 - due to illness.

Diogo Dalot poses as a doubt due to a hamstring injury, while Jadon Sancho remains unavailable because of fitness issues after spending the World Cup break training on his own in the Netherlands.

Forest manager Steve Cooper, on the other hand, will be without goalkeeper Dean Henderson because he is ineligible to compete against his parent club.

Wayne Hennessey is set to start between the sticks instead of Henderson, who joined on loan during the summer.

Serge Aurier is still dealing with a calf problem and Cheikhou Kouyate is also out with a hamstring injury he picked up during the World Cup while playing with Senegal
