Man Utd 1-0 Wolves LIVE RESULT: Raphael Varane’s header spares United blushes in thrilling Premier League contest
MANCHESTER UNITED opened their 2023/24 Premier League season with a win against Wolves - but they had to dig deep.
The Red Devils had their backs against the wall for most of the match by conceding chance after chance.
But experienced defender Raphael Varane's header was enough to see United escape Old Trafford with all three points.

A poor debut from Mount
It was a Manchester United Premier League debut for Mason Mount, and he looked all over the shop.
You could argue it was tough for him, as the Manchester United midfield looked very unbalanced in general, and it wasn't just him who performed poorly.
That said, when compared to Bruno Fernandes playing in a similar position, he failed to impact the game in any real way.
We all know that he is immensely talented, but he just seems to have lost his way lately.
As ever with these players though, he will be back.
Mason Mount had a PL debut to forget for Manchester United Wolves robbed?
Wolves were almost unanimously the better side, but were unable to put the ball in the back of the net during the 90 minutes.
However, they may have been robbed of an easy chance to do so right at the death, when there was a VAR review for a potential foul by Andre Onana.
The ball was crossed in from the left-hand side towards Sasa Kalajdzic and Onana came out to punch it, but completely missed it and hit the attacker in the face.
It went to a VAR review, and was not given as a clear and obvious error.
Wolves were definitely unfortunate, and maybe should have had a penalty...

It was Raphael Varane who ended up as the difference maker, with both teams failing to convert a host of chances.
