JORDAN SPIETH experienced a nightmare on the golf course as he hit a shot into the GUTTER.

In an effort to remedy his misfortune after being handed levity by officials due to not hitting from a penalty area, Spieth intentionally aimed his third shot towards the clubhouse.

He could be heard asking an official: "If I hit it over on the deck, where's my drop?" after someone, believed to be his caddie, had remarked: "If you're going to do that, I'm going to move my car."

But it's safe to say things did not go exactly to plan.

The 30-year-old's ball ended up landing on the roof of the building before rolling down into the gutter.

The shot ended up allowing Spieth a drop not far from the fairway.

From there he managed to find his way back on to the green for a par putt from 53ft away.

But the drama was far from over as Spieth failed to make the most of his good fortune, three putting for a seven.

Spieth ended his day three under par with a score of 72.

It left him 12 shots off the lead in San Antonio.

Rory McIlroy had a controversial shot of his own earlier this week on the opening day of the Texas Open.
