  • England 7-5 Scotland

    15. Scotland continue to drive through the challenges.

A lofted ball foward is fumbled by Sleightholme.

Fortunately he manages to make sure it does not go forward.

  • England 7-5 Scotland

    13. Scotland are still looking very capable on the attack.

This is the sort of game we were hoping for today, two teams all about attack.

Their defensive play neither side is well known for, we could be in for a cracker at Twickenham.

  • England 7-5 Scotland

    11. It will be a concern for the visitors that their defence had no answer to the drives by England.

Very different to what we saw from Ireland earlier in the day.

They were like a green wall when Wales attacked, the Scots were more like Hadrian's Wall now.

  • England 7-5 Scotland

    9. That is some reply from the hosts.

You wondered if Freeman had grounded the ball but the referee felt he was in a great position to see it.

The try is converted, giving England the lead in the game.

  • Try - Tommy Freeman (England)

  • England 0-5 Scotland

    7. Well, that score was not in the English script for today.

They need to find an instant reply.

After winning a penalty, the hosts opt to go for touch and put pressure on the Scottish try line.

  • England 0-5 Scotland

    5. Brilliant play from the Scots.

The offloads were perfectly timed when the tackles came in.

White made himself available and went over the line with no challenge.

  • Try - Ben White (Scotland)

  • England 0-0 Scotland

    3. England look to drive forward with a maul.

It is kicked downfield but well taken by Rowe.

He is standing in for Russell who picked up an injury against Ireland.

  • England 0-0 Scotland

    1. A huge roar across the stadium as we get the match started.

It is an electric atmosphere in London this afternoon.

Let's hope the rugby lives up to the hype.

  • Kick-off: England vs Scotland

    We are underway at Twickenham.

Always a massive game between these two teams.

    England get the game started.

  • Anthems echo out at England HQ

Irrelevant to your allegiance, you have to love 'oh flower of Scotland'.

When it comes to national anthems, this is a real banger.

The passion and pride is there for all to see in the Scottish players as they belt it out.

  • England need to be wary of bogeyman

Duhan van der Merwe has an incredible record against England.

Over the last few years, he has really hurt Borthwick's side with try scoring abilities.

If the hosts are going to secure victory at Twickenham this afternoon, they need to ensure they keep van der Merwe quiet.

  • Coach positive coming into match

England coach said where the focus lies for his side coming into this game against the Scots:

With Fin and Marcus, we now have two ball-players who see space in the frontline and in the backfield. That’s going to be very important. Marcus is a player with incredible ability, and the opposition sometimes focuses a lot on him. Sometimes, that creates space for others, but sometimes there will be a window for him to find.

  • Twickenham hosting titanic battle

There is never any love lost between these two countries.

Irrelevant to the sport being played, they want nothing more than to get one over their bitter rivals.

There is the added motivation that whoever wins today can move above France into second place in the Six Nations table.

  • Past Calcutta Cup meetings

The Scots have dominated this fixture for the past four years and they will be eyeing a fifth straight win this afternoon.

    • Scotland 30-21 England (2024)
    • England 23-29 Scotland (2023)
    • Scotland 20-17 England (2022)
    • England 6-11 Scotland (2021)

  • Borthwick: 'This England team is a very different team to the one that played last year'

Speaking ahead of the crunch Calcutta Cup clash, England coach Steve Borthwick said:

"As part of the preparation of any game, I always look back at the most recent matches against the opponent.

"What we also have to acknowledge is this [England] team is a very different team to the one that played last year.

"Danny Care started at scrum-half last year and he has retired from Test duty so you have to be conscious of drawing parallels.

"In comparison to previous England teams, the strengths of this one are wider than they used to be.

"There are different distribution strengths and there is an athleticism to this team which is different to 12 months ago.

"We are not looking at the past and the focus is on this weekend. The atmosphere is going to be phenomenal and I think it will be a brilliant Test match."

  • Russell in from the start

Scotland’s starman Finn Russell is fit to start this afternoon after a nasty clash of heads with teammate Darcy Graham in the first half against Ireland.

  • Good afternoon and welcome to SunSport’s live blog of England vs Scotland!

Steve Borthwick’s men will be looking to end their torrid run against the Scots and win their first Calcutta Cup since 2020.

Red Rose got their Six Nations campaign up and running last time out, winning a dramatic match against France at Twickenham.

Elliot Daly’s 80th-minute try secured a 26-25 win over Les Bleus two weeks ago.

Scotland arrive at Twickenham on the back of a 32-18 defeat to Six Nations favourites Ireland.

And Gregor Townsend’s men will be hoping to bounce back against a side they have certainly had the better of in recent years.

Scotland are eyeing an unprecedented fifth successive Calcutta Cup win this afternoon.
