F1 Australian Grand Prix LIVE RESULTS: Norris wins chaotic opening race as Hamilton suffers Ferrari disaster – latest

LEWIS HAMILTON suffered a nightmare Ferrari debut as six drivers crashed out of a chaotic Australian Grand Prix.
Hamilton, 40, made the switch from Mercedes to the Scuderia official over the off-season and made his debut for the Italian team as he chases a record-breaking eighth world championship.
The race start was DELAYED after rookie Isack Hadjar crashed out during the formation lap before bursting into tears as he was consoled by Hamilton's dad.
Fellow rookie Jack Doohan then crashed out on the first lap after a huge spin before last year's race winner, Carlos Sainz, crashed under the safety car.
Lando Norris took the chequered flag ahead of Max Verstappen after going off the track in a thrilling season opener, but Ferrari suffered a strategy disaster to leave Hamilton down in P10.

Piastri back in the points
After his horror mistake earlier, Piastri has managed to get his car back into the points which will be vital in the constructor's championship.
Meanwhile, Verstappen is now within a second of Norris going into the final two laps and has DRS.
Double Ferrari move
A cool move from Ferrari as both Leclerc and Hamilton profit from a Gasly wobble to move up to P8 and P9 respectively.
Six lap shootout
Norris leads away from Verstappen and punches a 1.2 second gap by the halfway point of the lap.
Hamilton has lost a place to team-mate Leclerc at Turn 1 of the restart.
Safety car ending
We're about to get back underway with the safety car coming in.
Norris leads from Verstappen and Russell, with Tsunoda in P4 and Antonelli in P5.
Hamilton is now back in P9 after Ferrari's strategy disasterclass.
Ferrari disaster
The gamble for Ferrari did not work out as Hamilton and Leclerc come in for a pit stop and drop down the order to ninth and 10th respectively.
Oscar Piastri is in a whopping 13th place, as Norris leads from Max Verstappen and the Mercedes of George Russell.
Kimi Antonelli has done well on his debut for Mercedes and is now up to fifth.
Ferrari blow it
Lando Norris is now leading as Max Verstappen came in to change to inters.
Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc stayed out but Verstappen reemerged from the ptis and then the Ferraris had to pit and lost the positions they gained.
Safety car and another crash!
Lap 47 - Liam Lawson and Gabriel Bortoleto are both out of the Australian Grand Prix meaning SIX drivers are out of the race.

Lap 44 - Lando Norris and Oscar Pisatri both ran wide at the third to last corner. Pisatri went off at the penultimate turn and fell into last place.
Norris pitted onto the intermediates after going off with Max Verstappen leading. The script has been flipped.
LEWIS HAMILTON PODIUM?
Lewis Hamilton is into SECOND aon his debut race for Ferrari after the chaos involving Piastri.
He stayed out along with Verstappen and Yuki Tsunoda after likes of Norris pitted.
OSCAR PIASTRI NIGHTMARE
Lap 45 - Yellow flag as Australian driver Oscar Piastri swerved off the track and onto the grass at his home race, having nearly lead at one point.

Lap 34 - The safety car has handed Hamilton a boost as he pits and Ferrari put the hard tyres on his car.
Yuki Tsunoda and Alex Albon in front of him put the mediums on.
ANOTHER SAFETY CAR
This time two-time world champion Fernando Alonso spins and turns into the wall in his Aston Martin. The Spanish driver is out of the race, making it FOUR drivers out, including Sainz, Doohan and Hadjar.

Lap 33- Oscar Piastri has now been told he is "free to race" as he closes in on his teammate Lando Norris.

Lap 30 - The Australian McLaren driver is told to "hold his position" by his team as he snaps at the heels of his teammate Lando Norris and gets into DRS range at his home race.
Lewis Hamilton sass
Lap 30 - The seven-time world champion is doing all he can to nip past Alex Albon, but he just can't manage it.
He's almost 40 seconds off the lead, and 15 seconds back from his team-mate Charles Leclerc in fifth.
The engineers are trying to give Hamilton information about DRS but he says on his team radio: "Leave it guys, leave it. I'm learning the car as I go mate, just leave me to it with the DRS. It's not an issue."
