MCLAREN'S dominant start to the new season has continued in China!

More drama followed after the race as Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly were both disqualified for an underweight car.

While Lewis Hamilton, who finished sixth, was also dealt a DQ for excessive plank wear underneath the car, meaning Ferrari leave the Grand Prix with nothing.

  • Lap 13/56 – Piastri leads, Norris in second

Ferrari seem to be preparing some new wings for Leclerc.

The tactics are key now, they want to find a gap to address the issue where they are not feeding him back into traffic.

Norris is speaking with his team, it seems the tyres are not degarding as quickly as expected, which could lead to a change in their pit plans.

  • Lap 11/56 – Piastri leads, Norris in second

Antonelli makes a good start in the Mercedes as he slots into seventh spot.

The gap between Leclerc in fifth and Verstappen in sixth is widening already.

It still remains to be seen whether the tactics today will be for a one or two stop race.

  • Lap 9/56 – Piastri leads, Norris in second

Tyres could be key today, particularly the management of them.

While this surface in Shanghai seems to offer a lot of grip, it has been tearing up the tyres of all the cars this weekend.

Leclerc is lapping faster than Hamilton, something he needs if they are going to have to replace that front wing.

  • Lap 7/56 – Piastri leads, Norris in second

Russell is currently in a McLaren and Ferrari sandwich.

Hamilton and Leclerc have moved ahead of Verstappen.

It seemed at the start that it was a coming together between the Ferrari teammates that caused the damage to Leclerc's front wing.

  • Fernando Alonso retires

  • Lap 5/56 – Piastri leads, Norris in second

Alonso seems to have issues with his brakes on fire.

Bad news for Aston Martin as it seems the Spaniard is having to retire from the Chinese Grand Prix as he reports to his team that he has no brakes whatsoever.

It was a hectic start from lights out but Russell had a better start that Piastri in pole position.

  • Lap 3/56 – Piastri leads, Norris in second

Leclerc seems to be having some issues with his car early on.

After some contact on the tight bends, a piece of his car seems to be missing from his front wing as a result.

  • Lap 1/56 - Piastri leads, Norris in second

Good start from Russell as he almost gets the inside line.

Piastri does well to hold him off on the first bend.

Contact between Verstappen and Leclerc causes some issues for the Red Bull driver.

However, McLaren take the first two spots as Norris moves in front of the Mercedes of Russell.

  • Drivers focussed on task at hand

As Martin Brundle of Sky Sports looks to speak to some drivers before the race preparations reach their climax, most have little to say.

George Russell says he is feeling "pretty good" coming into the race third on the grid.

There were some concerns after oil was spilt on the grid earlier but it seems the organisers have got it covered up so that it will not affect the big race today.

  • McLaren leadiing the way

Most eyes were on Lando Norris in qualifying yesterday, expecting to see the British driver dominate once again.

However, two laps from his teammate, Oscar Piastri, were quick enough to take pole position on the grid.

George Russell even got in betweeen the two McLaren drivers as he finished in second spot.
