MICHAEL VAN GERWEN has been called out by an Olympic gold medallist - after revealing his favourite hobby.

The three-time PDC world champion, 35, enjoys some downtime playing Call of Duty away from the oche.

Mighty Mike is currently competing in the Darts Premier League.

But in a revealing Q&A for sponsor Winmau, he revealed a love for all the iconic video game series.

Van Gerwen said: "I enjoy playing on the PlayStation.

"I mostly play one game - Call of Duty. I can't wait for Verdansk to return.

"Everyone here is probably wondering what I'm talking about.

"But all Call of Duty players will know exactly what I mean. Verdansk needs to come back."

MVG was referring to a popular online map named Verdansk that was removed from Call of Duty in 2001 but is set to return.

Dutch speed skater Kjeld Nuis, who has won three Winter Olympic golds, was paying close attention to Van Gerwen's question-and-answer session.

He immediately dived into the comment section and challenged his fellow countryman to a game.

Nuis wrote in Dutch, with an emoji of a toy gun: "Come play!"

The Green Machine has struggled for form over recent weeks.

He has been dealing with a health problem since January and is struggling to "shake it off", according to friend Vincent van der Voort.

The PDC star, 49, claimed his fellow Dutchman picked up the illness while on holiday in Thailand.

Van der Voort told the Darts Draait Door podcast: "He’s been struggling with a virus or infection for quite some time now.

"He picked it up during his holiday in Thailand back in early January, and he just hasn’t been able to shake it off.

"On top of that, he’s not in his best form."

Van Gerwen will take on Nathan Aspinall in his quarter-final at the Darts Premier League Week 8 on Thursday.
