  • What cue doing?

Shaun Murphy left Judd Trump in shock after he played on needing a whopping five snookers.

The two former Crucible champions met in the last-16 of the World Championship yesterday.

And in the sixth frame, there was a moment of controversy when the world No1's rival bizarrely refused to concede.

Murphy needed 71 and just 51 remained on the table, however, he continued and looked to force Trump into fouls.

He appeared startled as The Magician got out his seat to play on and even the referee was seen laughing in surprise.

Murphy's audacious effort did not come off and it seemingly wound-up Trump, who ferociously potted a red on his return to the table.

  • What's on today?

    1pm

    • Si Jiahui 9-7 Ben Woollaston (third session)
    • Shaun Murphy 6-10 Judd Trump (second session)

    7pm

    • Ronnie O'Sullivan 12-4 Pang Junxu (third session)
    • Luca Brecel 12-4 Ding Junhui (third session)
  • Higgins vs Williams - head to head

John Higgins and Mark Williams have faced each other 66 times over their storied careers.

It's been a relatively one-sided affair though, with Higgins holding a 57.6% win rate against Williams, with the all-time result standing at 38-24.

They've played each other in six previous quarter-finals, with Higgins winning four of those.

Williams has a 50-50 record against Higgins in finals - with four each - with one of those wins coming at the Crucible in 2018.

  • Class of 92 still going strong

The Class of 92 are still operating at the very top of the snooker wolrd 33 years after the trio made their professional debuts.

John Higgins and Mark Williams will meet each other for the 67th time in a massive quarter-final, while Ronnie O'Sullivan should be joining them later today.

However, they are on opposite sides of the draw meaning they will not meet until the final.

A long way to go to get there, of course, but I'm certainly not betting against them.

  • Quarter-final line-up

The quarters are underway from Tuesday with two of the last-eight matches already set in stone.

Here's how they are looking, with four spots to be settled today.

    • Zhao Xintong vs Chris Wakelin (Tues 29, 10am)
    • John Higgins vs Mark Williams (Tues 29, 10am)
    • O'Sullivan / Pang vs Si / Wollaston (Tues 29, 2.30pm)
    • Brecel / Ding vs Murphy / Trump (Tues 29, 2.30pm
  • All to play for

It's still all to play for today as those four below will play to a finish.

The evening session could be quick as both Ronnie O'Sullivan and Luca Brecel need only a frame each to progress into the quarters.

The afternoon is looking very tasty, though, with Ben Woollaston still well in his match with Pang Junxu.

Judd Trump was sensational in the final three frames of his last session against Shaun Murphy - tallying breaks of 106, 132 and 92 to take a four-frame lead.

    He needs three to progress.

  • Today's order of play

    Good morning, snooker fans!

    From 1pm

    • Si Jiahui 9-7 Ben Woollaston (third session)
    • Shaun Murphy 6-10 Judd Trump (third session)

    From 7pm

  • Zhao Xintong breaks record

The 28-year-old beat Lei Peifan 13-10 to progress to the quarter-finals of the World Snooker Championship yesterday.

It means Zhao Xintong becomes the first player with amateur status to reach the last 8 at the Crucible.

Speaking after his win, Zhao said: "Although it’s my first time in the quarter-finals, I hope to go even further. I believe I have the ability.

"Over the next few days, I will continue adjusting my form and sharpen my touch during practice. Because the opponents ahead are all very strong, I must maintain an even calmer mindset.

'I know Chris Wakelin is playing very well. He’s very strong this year, but I think as long as I can play to my own level, I have a chance against anyone.

"This quarter final match will be a challenge for both of us. I hope I can play my best and fully enjoy the match, maybe the outcome will exceed my expectations."

  • A century of centuries for Trump

Judd Trump secured his 100th century of the season during his second round clash with Shaun Murphy yesterday.

The World No1 made his 99th and then 100th back-to-back with breaks of 106 and 132.

Trump will receive a bonus of £100,000 and is only the third player to have reached the incredible milestone in a single season.

  • O'Sullivan and Brecel one frame away from last 8

Both Ronnie O'Sullivan and Luca Brecel hold 12-4 leads over Pang Junxu and Ding Junhui respectively.

It means the pair need just one more frame to get into the quarter-finals and both ties will resume at 7pm BST.

Should the Rocket progress he will face the winner of Si Jiahui vs Ben Woolaston in the last 8.

While Brecel will take on either Judd Trump or Shaun Murphy in a blockbuster clash.

  • Fans baffled as referee makes blunder during O’Sullivan clash

Fans were left baffled after the referee made an incredible blunder at the World Snooker Championship.

The surprising gaffe came during Ronnie O'Sullivan's round two clash against Pang Junxu on Sunday afternoon.

After Chinese cueist Pang had potted the pink ball during the 15th frame of the game, referee Jan Verhaas went to respot the ball in its spot on the table.

Verhaas is one of snooker's most well-respected refs, having officiated numerous major finals, including six world championships.

However, the veteran Dutchman is not infallible, as it proved at the Crucible on Sunday.

As Verhaas placed the pink ball back onto the table following Pang's pot, the 25-year-old had to point out the correct position of the colour.

Pang stopped in his tracks from potting a red to address the mistake, which Verhaas admitted to and promptly corrected while seeing the funny side by sharing a joke with the snooker star.

  • Si 9-7 Woollaston

    PURE DRAMA!

Just as it looked Woollaston was going to bring the match level for the first time since it was two a piece, Si goes on a roll!

It came down to the black, and the Chinese cueist made no mistake to secure a 60-56 win and reinstate his two-frame lead ahead of tomorrow's third and final session.

  • Si 8-7 Woollaston

    Almost another ton!

Woollaston continues to fight back against the World No13 as he makes another impressive break, this time just narrowly missing the century with 85.

That was the shortest frame of the match at 8 minutes.

  • Si 8-6 Woollaston

Woollaston would have been hoping his century break in the last frame would have given him the momentum he needs to get back in this one.

But it was Si who took the 14th frame, winning it 76-6 to take a 8-6 lead.

  • Trump 10-6 Murphy

It was a huge ask for Murphy to turn this one around after Trump's break of 51 earlier in the frame.

And the Magician couldn't get close to the World No1 as Trump wins the frame 147-0.

Trump has a four-frame lead over Murphy and the two will resume their clash tomorrow at 1pm BST.

The winner will likely face Luca Brecel in the quarter-finals.

  • Si 7-6 Woollaston

Best grame of the day from the Woollaston as he secures a 136-0 win over Si to take the 13th frame.

The British cuesit made a stunning century break, the highest of the match so far and Woollaston's first at the Crucible.

Woollaston is now within one of Si.

  • Trump 9-6 Murphy

A solid break of 51 from Trump gives Murphy huge work to do in the final frame of the session.

The Magician won't want to go into Monday four frames behind the World No1.

  • Top Trump

Trump banked a £100,000 bonus after he reached 100 century breaks in a single snooker season.

The Juddernaut, 35, notched breaks of 106 and 132 in the second session of his Last 16 clash with Shaun Murphy on day nine of the World Snooker Championship.

By reaching the ton of centuries, the world No.1 will receive a one-off cash prize off World Snooker Tour.

The offer has been on the table since the start of the 2023-24 season for any player if they made the milestone and Trump, the best break-builder of his generation, cashed in on the biggest stage.

Trump, the 2019 world champion, scored 100 centuries in 91 matches.

This is not the first time he has done this as in 2019-2020, the Bristol potter finished with 102 centuries from 95 matches.

The record is 103 set by Neil Robertson in 115 matches in 2013-14 and that is well within Trump’s reach, especially if he manages to get past the Magician and make the quarter-finals.

  • Trump 9-6 Murphy - Trump makes 100th century of season

Another stunning frame here from Trump as he secures back-to-back centuries to take his tally for the season up to 100!

Trump celebrated an incredible break of 137 and the Ace punched the air as he was applauded by spectators and his opponent Murphy.

The World No1 has secured a whopping £100,000 bonus for completing a magnificent feat.

  • Si 7-5 Woollaston

Si reinstates his two-frame lead over the Brit after winning the 12th frame 62-24.

Another pretty uneventful frame in this one as the players head for an interval.

  • Trump 8-6 Murphy

After a slow start to the frame, the World No1 turned on the style.

Trump has FINALLY got that 99th century!

He moves within one of reaching 100 for the season and that huge £100,000 prize.

A stunning clearance from Trump, claiming the century in one of the more unlikely frames of the match.

120-4 as The Ace goes 8-6 up.

  • Trump 7-6 Murphy

Slow start to the 14th frame with neither player potting a red in the opening minutes.

Murphy has committed three fouls, struggling with the placement of the cueball behind the brown and can't find a red.
