BAFFLED Shaun Murphy has planned to sit down for a coffee with rival Kyren Wilson and thrash out their differences.

The potting pair were involved in an explosive war of words on the eve of the tournament over a mystery incident before the final of the 2025 Masters which Murphy won 10-7 for the £350,000 top prize.

Wilson, 33, claimed Murphy, 42, had been “unprofessional” backstage in the Ally Pally practice room and he and his brother raised the issue at the time.

But the 2005 world champion said he had NO idea what occurred and joked: "Maybe he was offended by my Starbucks (coffee)."

The Magician said: “It’s still a baffling situation.

“Kyren and I have been texting each other a little bit and we’ve agreed to meet for a coffee to try and find a way forward on it.

“He still hasn’t told me what it is I’ve done to upset him.

“I have heard a few rumours through some other people on what it might be, but I’m still yet to hear it from the horse’s mouth.

“We were supposed to meet a few days ago, but obviously his plans changed. I think he is back now for a few days.

“Hopefully we’ll get a chance to meet and shake hands.”

Murphy completed an impressive 10-4 first-round win over Welshman Daniel Wells in the World Championship on Wednesday.

Wells himself notched three centuries and a 92 break to clinch the second, sixth, 11th and 12th frames.

But Murphy scored consistently throughout, recording breaks of 100, 138 and 133.

Reigning champion Wilson was a to Lei Peifan.

In what might well remain one of the matches of the tournament, the Chinese star ensured Wilson was the latest victim of the Crucible curse.

No first-time world champ has ever retained his crown the following year at the famous Sheffield theatre.
