  • Lap 49/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second

Norris and Leclerc have caught up with a pack of cars.

That now means the front pair have to overtake eight drivers.

On a tight track like this, that is easier said than done.

  • Lap 47/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second

There is a lot of tactical driving going on out there today.

We are seeing some drivers purposely slowing down the pack behind them for the benefit of their teammates.

Hamilton is now some way behind Verstappen in fourth place.

  • Lap 45/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second

Piastri almost slides around one corner there.

He did well to keep control of the car, some driving.

    Tokyo Drift in Monaco almost.

  • Lap 43/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second

All of the top five have pitted just once so far.

It is all about strategy for those drivers now.

Piastri still holds the fastest lap of the day.

  • Lap 41/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second

That retirement means that Alonso is pointless after eight races, his worst start to an F1 season.

There are still plenty of pit stops required today.

With new rules in place for this event, every driver has to use three different sets of tyres, meaning a two pit spot minimum.

  • Lap 39/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second

Alonso is out of the race and manages to get off the track.

He does so well and, as a result, we will only have a yellow flag.

The Spaniard is reporting smoke coming from his engine.

  • Lap 37/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second

Piastri still holds the fastest lap of the day.

We have only lost one driver as we edge towards the halfway point.

Gasly's horrendous front wheel issue sending him out of this one.

  • Lap 35/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second

Leclerc has just lapped Lawson in tenth spot.

This is most definitely a track where you have to drive as a team and not an individual.

Tsunoda is all the way back in fourteenth spot for Red Bull.

  • Lap 33/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second

Verstappen tells his team 'my shifts feel like it is Monaco 1972'.

Lawson heads into the pits and comes back out in tenth spot.

He helped out teammate Hadjar, keeping the pack away from him.

  • Lap 31/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second

Bearman has a bit of a slide approaching a corner.

As a result he goes over the chicane in a very unsightly manner.

Norris now has a 3.6 second lead over Leclerc.

  • Lap 29/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second

The lap times are not good for Verstappen as he heads into the pits.

He will be hoping to come back out in front of Hamilton.

The dream of being out in front of Piastri is not possible now.

  • Lap 27/78 – Verstappen leads, Norris second

It is amazing how much a safety car can change this race more than any other.

Russell and Antonelli are in twelfth and thirteenth places currently.

Not a productive day for Mercedes.

  • Lap 25/78 – Verstappen leads, Norris second

The goal now seems to be for Verstappen to get enough of a lead to pit and come back out in front of Piastri.

Red Bull need to ensure they are on their game for the pit.

Hadjar and Lawson are in eighth and ninth spot respectively.

  • Lap 23/78 – Verstappen leads, Norris second

Having still not pitted it is the Red Bull that now leads.

Leclerc comes back out in third place, behind Norris.

Piastri has clocked the fastest lap in fourth, with Hamilton behind him in fifth.

  • Lap 21/78 – Leclerc leads, Verstappen second

Norris pits for the first time in the race.

As a result, it is all change at the top.

Norris is now in 3rd place, with teammate Piastri in 4th spot.

  • Lap 19/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second

Hamilton is given the 'box. box' order from his team.

Bearman has pitted again, seeming like his team think he can complete the race on these medium tyres.

Good pit from Ferrari as Hamilton comes back out in the same place as when he left the track.

  • Lap 17/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second

Hamilton now moves into 5th place as Alonso pits.

Hadjar managed to get in front of the Spaniard too.

Verstappen is now 6.2 seconds ahead of the Ferrari.

  • Lap 15/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second

Hadjar heads into the pits and comes out just in front of his teammate Lawson in 8th place.

Tyres could be a big factor in this race, Verstappen and Leclerc do not have the option of a spare set of hard compounds.

Alonso has now moved to 5th spot, with Hamilton in 6th.

  • Lap 13/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second

We have managed to get away without a safety car from that incident.

Hamilton is now hot on the heels of Alonso in front of him.

Gasly is out of the race and loses his 100% finish record.

  • Lap 11/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second

There is a lot of debris out on the track.

As Gasly managed to get to the pits, he had no brakes and had to be stopped by mechanics.

This could have a big bearing on this race.

  • Lap 9/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second

Safety cars could play such a big part in this race today.

Currently Bearman has the fastest lap of the day.

Norris has a 2.1 second lead as a yellow flag is out for a track hazard.

Gasly's wheel is hanging off his car after hitting the wall.

  • Lap 7/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second

The front pair are opening a gap to third place Piastri already.

Russell is currently in 13th place, with Hamilton in 7th spot.

Not looking like a good day for those British drivers this afternoon.

  • Lap 5/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second

Piastri and Verstappen nearly had an early coming together.

The Red Bull was going hard from the start and the tight track that is Monaco can throw up some issues.

McLaren did not have a great start by both drivers but they did well to hold their positions.

  • Lap 3/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second

The virtual safety car is out, allowing a chance to pit for those whho planned to do so.

It does make you wonder why it would be a tactic so early in the race, tyres can barely have degraded so far.

Tsunoda, Bearman, Gasly and Bortoleto are the only ones to do so.
