TWENTY-SIX miles down – just the 376 to go.

I think I can safely say, I’ve broken the back of this walk!

I jest, of course.

But as first days go, it was not a bad one at all, even if we did end it soaked to the skin by another downpour.

Still it would not be proper Prostate Cancer UK charity walk unless it rained – which it certainly did for the last couple of hours.

It did not dampen our spirits, though.

My legs are fine and I have no aches or pains... long may that continue

I don’t want to tempt fate, but I feel much better than I did at the end of the first day last year when I was in absolute agony.

My feet and legs are fine and I have no aches or pains anywhere else.

Long may that continue.

THE first leg from Exeter was mainly cross country.

But it was heart-warming and morale-boosting to have so many drivers passing us along the way pull over to donate money.

The response once again from the public was incredible.

And no more so than the White Hart pub in Collington where we stopped for lunch.

I had not even stepped foot inside the door when I was handed a refreshing energy drink made of hops and barley – or as it is more commonly known, a pint of best bitter.

It earned me some raised eyebrows from my team-mates and fellow walkers who opted for water or orange juice.

But I’ve got to have some perks!

WE covered the first 26 miles at a fair old pace.

I certainly moved better than Rhododendron did in the Oaks yesterday.

I only hope I pick a better one in The Derby.
