Speedway superstar Tai Woffinden insists he will be the most ‘chilled out’ person in the Principality Stadium as 50,000 watch the British GP

Scunthorpe rider leads the series by 11 points after four of the ten rounds but says he can put all the hype to one side

SPEEDWAY track superstar Tai Woffinden will be the most “relaxed and chilled-out” person in the 50,000-fan packed Principality Stadium for the showpiece British Grand Prix on Saturday evening.

The 27-year old leads the series by 11 points after four of the ten rounds and refuses to get caught up the hype of an expectant home crowd hoping he can become the first Brit for 11 years to win the GP in the Welsh capital.

He said: “The media and pundits are talking it up.

“Of course Cardiff means a lot to me. The fans will be brilliant today and make it a special occasion and it’s my home Grand Prix. It’s unique.

“But it won’t affect me when I’m racing. I have a job to do.

“I know the fans want me to win today, but they want me to be world champion too.

“If I come away from Cardiff by making the final four and extending my lead in the standings then that will be job done.”

Home hero Woffy will be joined in the 16-man elite field by two other Brits, Craig Cook and wild card Robert Lambert.

Cook has struggled in his first season of full-time Grand Prix racing but said: “My constant inspiration is racing in front of the British fans at my home GP and winning a few races.

“That would be the highlight of my career. The series so far has been difficult for me, but hopefully I can turn that round.”

Lambert is a dark horse, coming into the meeting as a wild card after winning the national title recently.

He said: “The atmosphere and noise that will hit me from the fans will be like nothing else I have experienced, with Union Jacks as far as the eye can see.
