How old is Tom Daley, why is diver not competing in Glasgow, and when was his and Dustin Lance Black’s son born?

TOM DALEY is a double world champion and two-time Olympic bronze medallist diver who is currently taking a break from competition.

Who is Tom Daley?

Tom Daley was born on May 21, 1994.

He started diving aged just seven and began making an impact in national and international competitions two years later.

Daley first dived for Great Britain at the 2008 Summer Olympics where, at 14, he was Britain's youngest competitor, finishing in seventh.

He was the youngest entrant from any nation to participate in a final.

In 2009, Daley reached a career-best ranking of number one in the FINA world diving rankings for the 10metres platform.

What medals has Tom won?

At the London 2012 Olympics Daley won bronze in the individual 10m platform and at Rio 2106 bagged another third place with Daniel Goodfellow in the synchronised 10m platform.

At the World Champs he won gold for the 10 metre platform in 2009 and 2017.

He scooped gold in the team event in 2015, after picking up the bronze in the individual.

He's been the European Champion three times in 2008, 2012 and 2016.

Daley has won the British Championships six times since 2006, with three silvers and one bronze.

In 2018 he won Commonwealth gold with Dan Goodfellow in the men's synchro 10 metres platform after pulling out of the individual event.

Why is Tom Daley not competing in the European Championships in Glasgow?

Daley is not competing at the Euros after pulling out of the individual competition at the Commonwealth Games with a hip injury.

He also suffered a series of concussions earlier in 2018.

He very recently became a father and is taking time out to spend time with his son.

He has been part of the BBC presenting team in Glasgow.

When was Daley's and Dustin Lance Black's son born?

Daley and his film producer husband Dustin  welcomed Robert Ray Black-Daley into their world on Wednesday, June 27, 2018.

The couple, who married in May 2017, chose to name their son after Tom's late dad Robert, who died of a brain tumour in 2011.

 

They announced they were expecting a child via a surrogate in the US in February - but have said they don't want to know who the biological father is.

Tom told the  earlier this year that they had both provided sperm to fertilise their surrogate's eggs - and hinted that a second child could be on the cards.

When is Daley expected to return to competitive action?

Daley says he will return to action in 2019.

He has his sights set on an elusive gold medal at his fourth Olympics in Tokyo in 2020.

When are the diving events at the European Championships?

The diving competition takes place from August 6-12 at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh.

Ross Haslam and Grace Reid won silver in the mixed 3 metre synchro, with Britain scooping gold in the women's 10m synchro in the form of Eden Cheng and Lois Toulson.

Jack Laugher added to the haul with a gold in the 1m springboard, with James Heatly picking up bronze.

Laugher then earned a second gold medal with victory in the men's 3m springboard final.

Matthew Dixon and Noah Williams took silver in the men's synchronised 10m platform final.
