MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bemoaned his side's lack of creativity as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth.

Former United youngster Josh King, who made just one League Cup appearance during his four-year spell at Old Trafford, scored the only goal of the game.

And after the south coast defeat, Solskjaer pinpointed what he felt was lacking from his toothless troops.

He said: "To win games you need to score goals and I'm sure Anthony and Marcus are going to get their share of goals.

"Anthony's just going improve but we need more creativity.

"But we've got loads of players here in the squad who could create more, it's not just look outside, we have to do with what we have."

Solskjaer paired Rashford with Martial up top for the game, but it was rookie sub Mason Greenwood who came closest to equalising.

LUKAKU NOT REPLACED

The 18-year-old replaced Dan James with ten minutes to go and hit the post after a delicious ball in from Fred.

Rashford and Martial failed to gel as many fans would have hoped they would at the Vitality Stadium.

And it will raise more questions as to why Romelu Lukaku was sold when no replacement was brought in.

The Belgian powerhouse joined Inter Milan on transfer deadline day in a £76.5million deal.

The only goal of the defeat to Bournemouth came when King, 27, took Adam Smith’s volley on his chest before flicking the ball over the head of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and volleying past David De Gea.

That was Bournemouth’s first goal in over a  month and more than enough to take them above United in the Premier League table.

It was also the 11th consecutive away game in which United had failed to keep a clean sheet, equalling an unwanted club record stretching all the way back to January 2003.

And Solskjaer could have precious few complaints after his team’s recent run of three consecutive away wins was brought to an end.
