MANCHESTER UNITED are back in the hunt for a striker after one of their top targets Erling Haaland opted to move to Borussia Dortmund.

The 19-year-old picked the German giants after United refused to be held to ransom by Paul Pogba's agent Mino Raiola.

Haaland’s Bundesliga move was brokered by Mino Raiola, who also represents French World Cup winner Pogba.

And SunSport understands United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward ordered his club to end negotiations for Haaland over the transfer package put together by Raiola.

The super-agent was believed to have made demands over Haaland’s proposed Old Trafford contract that influenced any future sale.

Haaland explained his choice by saying: “I had intensive discussions with the club management and the sports management, especially with Hans-Joachim Watzke, Michael Zorc and trainer Lucien Favre.

"There was a feeling right from the start that I absolutely wanted to switch to this club, go this route and play football in this incredible Dortmund atmosphere in front of more than 80,000 spectators.

"I'm already burning for it."

But given United's strong stance on the matter, they will now have to look elsewhere for a forward man in the January transfer window.

Before their convincing 4-1 win against Newcastle on Boxing Day, and their 2-0 victory at Burnley on Saturday, United had struggled for goals this season.

RICHARLISON

And as a result, the Red Devils have put Everton forward Richarlison, 22, on their five-man new year shopping list, according to the .

Former Everton boss Marco Silva alluded to United's interest before he was sacked but as Richarlison is contracted until 2024 he could cost at least £60million.

Silva said: “I believe it is not just Manchester United looking at him.

“I believe it is some more. As a club we have to keep our best players.”

JADON SANCHO

Borussia Dortmund winger Sancho is also on the list but the German giants have whacked an eye-watering £127m price tag on his head to ward off interest from the Red Devils and Premier League rivals Chelsea.

But the Blues are prepared to pay £120m and could beat United to his signature.

ALEXANDRE LACAZETTE

Arsenal's French forward has struggled for form in recent times and despite starting against Chelsea at the weekend could be on his way out the door at the Emirates.

But United may be concerned to hear the Gunners are said to be targeting Lyon's Mousa Dembele to replace him - a man the Red Devils also have their eye on.

MOUSSA DEMBELE

Ex-Celtic man Dembele - currently plying his trade in Ligue 1 with Lyon - is on the radar of most of the Premier League's biggest teams.

And once again, if United want to see him lining up in red, they will have to beat Chelsea to his siganture with the Blues reportedly set to rival United for the £71million man.

JAMES MADDISON

While out and out strikers are important to United, a creative presence behind them is also a must with Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata particularly disappointing in the number ten role this season.

Leicester's James Maddison has been earmarked as a suitable replacement and United are reportedly ready to launch an £80m raid on the Foxes in January to bring him in.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hoping Maddison's former teammate Harry Maguire will convince the Englishman to make the move.
