Olivier Giroud unhappy with ‘disrespectful’ Inter Milan after missing out on Chelsea exit to damage Euro 2020 hopes

OLIVIER GIROUD is fuming at being strung along by Inter Milan before seeing the interest peter out, according to reports.

The Frenchman, 33, was desperate to leave Chelsea in search of regular football as he fears missing out on Euro 2020.

But the World Cup winner missed out on a move as Inter turned their attentions to Ashley Young and Christian Eriksen.

claims Giroud was first contacted by the Italian club in December and held talks for weeks before reaching an agreement on a deal.

But they reportedly pulled the plug on talks late in the window - claiming the Eriksen transfer meant they could not afford Giroud.

The French site quotes a source close to the striker as saying: “Inter Milan’s attitude towards Olivier Giroud has been very disrespectful.

“We’ve made a player who’s behaving in an exemplary fashion and who had given priority to Inter Milan.”

Chelsea would have allowed Giroud to join Tottenham instead - but only if they landed Dries Mertens.

The Blues tried to land the Napoli forward in a last-gasp deal but could not persuade him to make the switch.

Mertens is out of contract in the summer and the Serie A outfit were looking to cash in.

But the Belgian is just four short of being Napoli's all-time leading goalscorer and wants to overtake Marek Hamsik.
