Olivier Giroud ready to put his transfer heartbreak behind him and fire Chelsea’s season back on track

But having seen his bid to leave blocked by boss Frank Lampard due to an injury to fellow frontman Tammy Abraham, Giroud is keen to get his head down and fight for a place for the good of the club - and his place in France's Euro 2020 squad.

The former Arsenal ace came on a sub in Chelsea’s 2-0 home defeat by Manchester United last night, his first appearance since November 30.

He said: “I am a Chelsea player and now need to move on and look forward. I want to give everything for the team and my personal target is to play as much as I can so I can play in the Euros with my country. That is massive for me, things like that.

“But now I am 100 per cent focused for Chelsea and their targets and I want to keep fighting and get back on the score sheet.

“Every single game is a big opportunity for me to show my desire to come back.”

Giroud had a goal ruled for offside by the VAR as he tried to help Chelsea back into the game.

And SunSport showed you how that was one of four blunders made by ref Anthony Taylor.

He said: “After two months without playing I felt very good on the pitch with a lot of energy and determination and I scored a nice goal from a nice cross.

“I just tried to stay behind the defender but I was offside by about half a foot and that is very frustrating because it could have changed the game.

“But we made two mistakes for the goals and I think we need to improve on that. It is frustrating.”

Chelsea have now won just one of their last six Premier League matches and face Tottenham at home on Saturday.

Giroud said: “We just need to improve on small details. That is where you can win or lose big games. Now we need to step up and improve on the kind of small margins that are huge in high levels.

“It was very tough against United. We need to think about it and obviously try to change it because it is another big game on Saturday.”
