Man Utd ‘trigger one-year option’ in Timothy Fosu-Mensah’s £20k-a-week contract

MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly taken up the option to extend Timothy Fosu-Mensah's contract.
The right-back was due to leave Old Trafford once the 2019/20 season ended but now appears to be sticking around for another 12 months.
On Thursday, reported that Fosu-Mensah, 22, has had activated.
The Dutchman is yet to play this season after suffering a horror knee ligament injury while on loan at Fulham in April of last year.
The majority of his game time has come in loan spells at Craven Cottage and Crystal Palce, before which he made 21 appearances in the United first-team under Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has previously spoken of Fosu-Mensah's ability to help the Red Devils' out across the pitch despite largely playing at right-back throughout his career.
In January, the Norwegian manager told reporters: "When he comes back, he’s capable of playing in midfield."
Reports had recently put Fosu-Mensah's future in doubt as Solskjaer pondered whether or not to hand out the extension, but those rumours are now set to be put to bed.

Likewise, United have taken up automatic options on Nemanja Matic's and Eric Bailly's deals.
Former Ajax academy talent Fosu-Mensah returned to training in February and has featured for the Under-23s before football's shutdown by the coronavirus pandemic.
He told the club website last month: "It has been crazy. It is the first big injury of my career and it has almost been one year out.
"It has been a big test, but I have so many good people around me to keep me motivated, to keep me working hard.

"Obviously, my teammates keep motivated me and keep saying the right things to me, so I keep going. For sure it has been hard, but the work has been good."
The news follows United tying down another youngster's future, Tahith Chong agreeing a new two-year deal amid talk of a move to Juventus.
Still to settle his future is fellow winger Angel Gomes, most recently reported to have been offered a new £30,000-a-week contract ahead of his expiration at the end of the season.
