And Lyon's president Jean-Michel Aulas revealed they are desperately trying to sort out an extension.

But Depay, 26, who has not played this year due to injury, needs more convincing before he will put pen to paper.

, Aulas said: "We work on it every day. I have a lot of personal contact with him.

"We have made a number of proposals to him, but he has not yet given a definite answer.

"So we don't have an agreement yet, but there is no question of a break in the negotiations.

"He was waiting to be able to resume playing. He had also imagined playing in European competition with the Netherlands. Then there was this injury.

"We keep talking on one side with his agents and directly with him. We will do everything to have him sign an extension.

"All the decision-making bodies, which are Juninho, Rudi Garcia and myself, are very much in favour of extending his contract."

Depay's last appearance came on December 15 when he suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury in the 1-0 defeat to Rennes.

He was expected to miss the rest of the season, including Euro 2020, but could make a return depending on if and when Ligue 1 resumes after the suspension.

The Dutch star had been one of the league's standout players, racking up 14 goals in 18 appearances across all competitions for Lyon, captaining the side five times.

Those figures are in stark contrast to his failed spell at Manchester United.

Depay joined from PSV in 2015 and requested the doomed No7 shirt at Old Trafford but just 18 months later, with seven goals in 53 appearances, he was sold again.

But after moving to Lyon he has resurrected his career.

So much so that Tottenham, Liverpool and, more recently, Lazio have all been linked with moves for the forward.

However, Lyon are certainly hoping to keep hold of their man, especially after losing Nabil Fekir, Tanguy Ndombele and Ferland Mendy last summer.
