Paris Saint-Germain and Uruguay star Edinson Cavani hints at surprise Atletico Madrid move despite interest from Premier League
Manchester United and Chelsea both linked with attacking who could be set for big-money move this summer
EDINSON CAVANI has indicated that he could be heading to Atletico Madrid this summer.
The Paris Saint-Germain star has been linked with a move away from the French capital after failing to nail down a place in Laurent Blanc’s starting XI.
Most of Cavani’s appearances last season came on the wing due to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s role as the club’s central striker, and the Uruguayan is reportedly looking for a way out.
Ibrahimovic has now left the Parc des Princes on a free transfer, paving the way for Cavani to take over through the middle of Blanc’s attack.
But the striker has now dropped a huge hint that he could be on his way to beaten Champions League finalists Atletico.
International teammate Diego Godin is a key man under Diego Simeone and has apparently been trying to convince Cavani to join him in Spain.
Rejecting claims that he doesn’t give his all as a winger at PSG, Cavani told VTV Uruguay: “At PSG I have always seen myself as a No.9 even though I’ve never played that role. I always sacrifice myself for the team.
“The future? Godin knows me very well and has repeatedly told me that I should go to Atletico Madrid as his teammate.”
Cavani’s revelation comes as a surprise after his agent recently admitted a Ligue 1 stay was all but confirmed.

Claudio Anellucci told Radio CRC: “I do not think that it is at all possible for him to quit PSG.
“After the departure of Ibrahimovic, PSG want to keep their existing squad and reinforce in order to win the Champions League. PSG cannot lose two strikers.”
Manchester United and Chelsea are both reportedly interested in signing Cavani if the forward is available, but it seems he has his sights set on a move to La Liga over the Premier League instead.
