Giroud — who is preparing for this summer’s European Championships on his home soil — also claimed Vardy can help propel the Gunners to their first Premier League title since 2004.

He said: “I’ve been told that Jamie [Vardy] wants to join us which is very good news for us.

“I think we can be complementary. that’s all I can say, he is a fantastic player.”

When asked whether his arrival was bad news for him and whether a formation change was in order, Giroud laughed: “4-4-2? I don’t know.

“But as I said in the past we always have fantastic strikers at Arsenal and I want the best for this club.

“So hopefully he can help us win this [Premier League] title.”

SunSport exclusively reported that boss Arsene Wenger had met with Vardy regarding a £20million move on Friday.
