Chile 4 Panama 2: Red hot Chileans march through to Copa America Centenario quarter-finals

Eduardo Vargas and Alexis Sanchez shone in attack for La Roja but Barcelona goalkeeper Carlos Bravo has horror show in USA

Eduardo Vargas was the star of the show as Chile qualified for the quarter-finals — but they were made to sweat.

La Roja were sensational going forward, with Hoffenheim ace almost single-handedly overturning a deficit before half-time.

But Barcelona goalkeeper Carlos Bravo produced stinker.

A defeat to Argentina and victory over Bolivia apiece meant this was effectively a play-off for the last eight.

And it was Copa America debutants, Panama, who took a shock lead — after just five minutes.

Miguel Camargo shot straight at Bravo, but the Barcelona man let the effort squirm past him.

Last year's winner seemed invigorated by the set-back as they peppered the Panama goal.

Vargas levelled proceedings ten minutes later when he followed up Sanchez's shot which had been saved by Jaime Penedo.

And he made it 2-1 on 43 minutes when he headed home from former Birmingham man Jean Beausejour's cross.

When Sanchez volleyed home to make it thee five minutes into the second-half, Chile appeared to be coasting into the quarter-finals.

But, with just 15 minutes remaining, Bravo fumbled Abdiel Arroyo's header into the back of the net at his near post.

Arsenal man, Sanchez, made the passage safe with a fourth a minute from time.
