Drool over Lions

Euro 2016: England are the top-ranked team at the European Championships… In terms of successful dribbles that is

Roy Hodgson's men are far and away the most audacious squad, completing a staggering 59 dribbles in just three games

ENGLAND fans may look at their side's Euro 2016 campaign as something of a mixed bag so far.

First of all, Roy Hodgson's men conceded a last-gasp equaliser to stumble to a draw despite dominating against Russia.

They followed that up with a frenetic, come-from-behind win against rivals Wales thanks to goals from substitutes Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge.

And with confidence sky-high following that famous win, boss Hodgson made six changes, lost all momentum and the Three Lions failed to roar in a tame 0-0 draw against Slovakia.

Dropping two points meant England fell to second in the group - and now prepare to take on Iceland in the last-16.

England mustered just five points from their three group games, including two tame draws, but they at least one thing to celebrate at Euro 2016

But while Roy's boys may not have set the world alight on the pitch - so far, anyway - they have been easily the standout team in one category.

And it's a good one too, as England are far and away the best team in terms of successful dribbles.

The Three Lions have clocked up nearly 60 successful runs in just three games - a whopping 20 ahead of next best Germany.

England's Group B opponents Slovakia sit third - level with Romania - with Wales, France, Croatia, Portugal, Belgium and Albania completing the top ten.

So while the Three Lions may not have got the goals required to dominate the tournament - netting just three in the group stages - their ability to pick up the ball and charge up the pitch with it is very impressive.

Meanwhile, there opponents in the knockout stages Iceland sit joint-last with just ten in three games.

England may not have topped Group B, following their shoddy performance in the 0-0 against Slovakia, but they top Europe in terms of successful dribbles this summer

There's no doubt whatsoever there will be a clash of styles when the two teams clash in Nice on Monday June 27.

England will look to push forward in numbers - making more and more runs into attacking areas - while Iceland will sit back, absorb the pressure and look to break on the counter quickly.

Hodgson and Co will no doubt need to be more clinical in front of goal.

Exciting runs are all very well and good to look at, but with no end product, they're ultimately pointless.
