Paul Clement will become England coach on a part time basis under Sam Allardyce

PAUL CLEMENT has revealed he turned down the chance to be England No 2 to focus on the job at Bayern Munich.

Three Lions boss Sam Allardyce offered Clement the chance to be his assistant after being named as manager of the national team.

But former Chelsea and Real Madrid assistant and Derby County manager Clement said he didn't think he'd be able to combine the two roles.

He told German newspaper Bild: "It is true the England team would have liked to have had me as assistant coach.

"There was an inquiry, and it is a huge honour.

"I thought about it but there is so much to do at Bayern that it is incompatible.

"That's why, after consulting with the team, I turned it down."

Clement has followed new manager Carlo Ancelotti to a third club after being his No 2 at Stamford Bridge and the Bernabeu.

Former Bolton Wanderers and Southampton assistant Sammy Lee is, so far, the only confirmed member of Allardyce's back-room team.
