The winger is a free agent after his contract with Fiorentina expired in June and thus can join another club beyond the summer transfer window's deadline date.

The former France international was initially approached by Hellas Verona but he appears to be more keen on moving to Campania.

That is because Salernitana are offering a one-year deal worth €1.5million (£1.2m) plus bonuses.

And it seems like the 38-year-old and the Granata are close to reaching a deal.

Salernitana have endured a rough start to life in the Serie A with back-to-back defeats to Bologna and Roma.

Thus, manager Fabrizio Castori is now looking for reinforcements ahead of the upcoming visit in Torino on September 12.

Ribery burst onto the scene in the mid-2000s when he played for Marseille and a string of impressive performances led to an international call-up.

The Frenchman then joined Bayern in 2007 after a two-year stint with L'OM in Ligue 1.

The forward enjoyed tremendous success in Munich as he won nine Bundesliga titles, six German Cups and the 2013 Champions League.

Ribery amassed a total of 124 goals and 182 assists in 425 matches for the Bavarians across all competitions.

He left Bayern in 2019 for Fiorentina where he spent two years before becoming a free agent.
