Welshman Pulis has been at odds with Williams after insisting the club did not sign the players he wanted this summer, saying Hal Robson-Kanu was not one of his targets.

And in an official statement confirming the club’s takeover, Pulis was not mentioned by name.

Neither Lai nor  outgoing chairman Jeremy Peace referred to the Albion boss.

Now Pulis wants to know what direction the club is heading in.

Pulis, whose contract is up at the end of the season, is demanding talks with the new regime and already has one eye on the January transfer window.

He said: “The Chinese are coming in so the club is being taken over.

“We’ll see what their vision is and what they want to do.

“The only way you move forward is by improving the squad.

“We need to bring other players in and we’ve not been able to do that. The players we have got I’m absolutely delighted with.

“The remit was to keep the club in the Premier League while making profits and that’s what we’ve done.

“We’ve finished 13th and 14th. Big clubs have been relegated with  massive debt.”

Lai  takes over from Peace, who was  chairman for 15 years.

He said: “I’m delighted to become the next  steward of the club.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to  support the club’s  chairman and the team in building the club.”
