CRISTIANO RONALDO walked straight down the tunnel at full-time after Manchester United's disappointing exit from the Champions League.

The Red Devils are on course for their worst trophy drought since their relegation in 1974 after Tuesday's 2-1 aggregate defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Champions League glory was United's last hope of winning silverware before the 2023 Carabao Cup, which would see them match their five-year and ten month trophy drought.

Man Utd's swift exit from the Champions League also condemned star Cristiano Ronaldo to a trophyless season for the first time in 12 years.

Ronaldo failed to have an impact against the club he tormented during his Real Madrid and Juventus days.

The 37-year-old, who went into the game off the back of a hat-trick against Tottenham, recorded ZERO shots against Atletico.

Disappointed by the result, Ronaldo walked down the tunnel in frustration - but clapped fans as he departed from the pitch.

Man Utd may not be playing Champions League football next season.

The Red Devils are currently trailing Arsenal in the race for fourth and the Gunners have games in hand.

And Ronaldo could QUIT in the summer if the club do not qualify for the esteemed competition.

Atletico boss Diego Simeone zppeared to get a horrific reception as he left the pitch after the game.

The Argentine had missiles launched at him as his resolute side stunned the crowd into silence.

Most of the things thrown appeared to be drinks - but they missed their target as Simeone made it to cover without being directly hit.

And now the Premier League side could be heavily fined for the actions of their fans.

One fan on Twitter quipped: "Simeone sprinting down the tunnel there, only just beating Ronaldo to the changing room."

Another said: "See Ronaldo headed straight down the tunnel again this evening.

"No high fives with Tom Brady or laps of honour. See ya later."
