GUEYE'S LGBT 'SNUB'

PSG star Idrissa Gueye misses Montpellier win after allegedly ‘REFUSING to wear kit with LGBT-themed rainbow flag on it’

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN midfielder Idrissa Gueye allegedly missed his side's 4-0 win over Montpellier after refusing to wear a kit which contained an LGBT-themed rainbow flag.

Ligue 1 clubs wore their own variations of the rainbow-coloured kits in a show of solidarity for the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia which takes place on Tuesday.

And PSG put on a show in the special shirts as Lionel Messi netted twice in a routine victory as Mauricio Pochettino's French champions signed off their title-winning campaign in style.

But Gueye was absent from the squad, with Pochettino insisting it was due to "personal reasons, but he is not injured".

Now are claiming Gueye did not feature because he refused to play in the LGBT-themed strip.

It also states that the Senegalese player missed the corresponding commemorative fixture 12 months ago with what was labelled "gastroenteritis".

His representatives previously denied that he boycotted the fixture last season but are yet to comment on his absence this season.

When asked about the reports, LGBT+ Sports Federation president Eric Arassus said: "Idrissa Gueye is a great player, but religion is not a part of the sport.

"Every player took part [in rainbow shirt initiative], except him.

"He should be sanctioned. Gueye’s excuses show that the club [PSG] and League let homophobia happen."

In Gueye's home country of Senegal, gay marriage has not been legalised and homosexuality can lead to up to five years imprisonment.

He joined PSG from Everton in 2019 and has gone on to feature 110 times for the club, scoring seven goals and providing a further six assists.

Meanwhile, SunSport exclusively revealed on Saturday that a gay teenage player in the Championship is about to come out in a TV interview.

It would make him Britain's only openly gay footballer.

Sources say he is “very relaxed” about his sexuality and that he is keen to “break the stigma” over the issue.
