Manchester United defender Eric Bailly out for two months with knee ligament damage suffered in the 4-0 hammering at title-rivals Chelsea

The £30million summer signing has been one of the rare success stories in the United ranks this season

MANCHESTER UNITED defender Eric Bailly will be out for two months with knee ligament damage.

The £30million pound man has been one of the better players for a United side who have struggled to gel in the early part of the season.

The Ivory Coast defender shared a photo of him in a car with the knee in a protector, writing: "I wanted to thank you all for the messages of support that I received since the injury. Thanks for always been there."

Bailly was replaced by and Marcos Rojo after 52 minutes due to the injury and his manager Jose Mourinho has said in his post-match press conference it was a serious matter.

Mourinho said at the time: “He is injured, I am afraid he is badly injured.

“In his knee, in the ligament area, he feels that it is really bad.”

Bailly will be a huge loss to United after a woeful defensive display. Chris Smalling was culpable – to an extent – for all four goals. And £30m left-back Luke Shaw couldn’t even get named among the subs.

With an expected return around the festive period, and then a trip out for the Africa Cup of Nations, boss Jose Mourinho has yet more problems to deal with at Old Trafford.
