Valencia needed surgery after playing through pain in the derby win against Manchester City when he picked up the fracture.

The United right back, one of the successes of the season at Old Trafford, refused to go off after a City player accidentally stood on his hand.

But Valencia had to have an op and is in plaster with a comeback unlikely until the middle of December.

Mourinho will have to rotate Matteo Darmian and Timothy Fosu-Mensah in his absence.
