Journalist astonishingly claims morale was that low in France a Three Lions man was desperate to leave

AN England footballer rang his agent to “get him out” of the Euro 2016 squad this summer.
That was the astonishing claim by journalist Jim White.
Ahead of tonight’s crunch World Cup clash between Scotland and England at Wembley, White joined BBC Radio 5 Live to discuss the clash.

And after questioning whether England’s players have the desire to represent their country, he revealed the tale from France last summer.
White said: “There was a player at the Euros this year, who when England arrived in France rang his agent and said ‘Can you get me out of this?’

“And that to me is extraordinary.”
Former Scotland international and Everton midfielder John Collins refused to believe the revelation.
He said: “I find that hard. A player picked to represent their country – surely they have to cherish it and love that.”
White refused to name the individual but it is another sorry tale from a miserable summer over the Channel if true.
The Three Lions scraped through their group before they were dumped out of the competition by minnows Iceland in a humiliating 2-1 defeat.
That result lost Roy Hodgson his job, and after the Sam Allardyce saga, Gareth Southgate is now the man tasked with restoring the nation’s pride in the national team – albeit on an interim basis for now.
He will take a huge step to landing the job permanently by defeating Gordon Strachan’s men at the national stadium.
