Liverpool 2 West Ham 2: Five things we learnt as Loris Karius fails to impress between the sticks yet again

Reds now trail league leaders Chelsea by six points and have the worst goals conceded ratio than anyone in the top six

LIVERPOOL lost further ground over league leaders Chelsea when Slaven Bilic's West Ham left Anfield with a point following an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Question marks will be hovering the heads of both goalkeepers as both Loris Karius and Darren Randolph made errors that contributed to at least two of the goals.

But what else can we say about the clash which leaves Liverpool six points behind adrift of their title challengers?

We take a look at five things to take away from the game including the talking point of Liverpool's shot stopper.

1. Stick or twist with Loris Karius

Another game and yet another talking point over Liverpool's summer signing. The keeper flapped at Dimitri Payet's first half free-kick which allowed the Hammers a route back into the match.

The Frenchman's set-piece was tame but Karius was too slow to get across his goal-line and his fingertips weren't enough to keep the ball out of the net.

Question marks also hang over his head for West Ham's second after appearing indecisive when Michail Antonio was put through on goal.

Jamie Carragher slated the 24-year-old at full-time and believes Klopp must bring Simon Mignolet back into the side over the Christmas period.

But does the German boss have it in him to bite the bullet and drop his No.1 keeper?

2. Liverpool miss Philippe Coutinho's creativity

Klopp's side still have the attacking flair with the likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana but the loss of Coutinho is affecting Liverpool's performances on the pitch.

The Reds have now failed to win both Premier League games they've played without their talisman this season.

His movement around the box and vision carves teams open and they needed that extra piece of magic to force a way past West Ham's defence on Sunday.

He is expected to miss at least four more games and his return couldn't come soon enough.

3. West Ham gain much-needed confidence boost

Languishing towards the bottom of the table, the Hammers weren't expecting to get anything at Liverpool.

But a vital point and a boost in confidence could prove huge with a run of crucial fixtures coming up.

They face Burnley, Hull, Swansea and Leicester in the coming weeks but with Payet back amongst the goals again, they have every chance of climbing back up the table.

4. Andy Carroll gives Hammers a vital option in attack

Just two goals scored by West Ham this season have been scored by their strikers. One of those was Andy Carroll who was making just his third appearance of the season when he was introduced by Bilic late in the second half.

Carroll's physical style can cause defenders havoc at times and they need him to stay fit over the Christmas period. Not only will he make West Ham much more of a threat from crosses, he has the ability to bring the likes of Payet and Manuel Lanzini into more dangerous areas.

5. Klopp must invest in his back four in January

Liverpool conceded their 20th goal of the season on Sunday - nine more than rivals Chelsea and one more than Man City, who have been slated for their defensive displays.

The Reds have no hope of winning the title if they keep leaking needless goals.

Whilst Karius continues to get stick, Liverpool's flailing back four are handing their opponents too many chances throughout the 90 minutes.

Klopp must delve into the January window and splash the cash particularly on a left-back to replace the makeshift James Milner.
